What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

It has the same Hitachi shocks that my SR has. There’s no locker unless it’s automatic, doesn’t seem worth 46,400 imo seems like a $34k truck with a $14k tattoos and piercings markup.don’t get me wrong, it’s still badass.

 

I believe the 96/97s had a buyback option... So someone may have cashed in. From what I understand the frame replacement happened on some years and other years they did a flat buyback option where they paid you for your issues and you got to keep the truck

 

I noticed this SR5 w/technology pkg at dealer this weekend. 43k, wow.

 

I have religiously used PIAA Silicone wiper blades for over a decade now. Love the hell out of them. Best damn wiper blades I've ever had. Found out a few months ago when I got my Tacoma that they suck on it though. They skip. So... I need to buy OEM wiper blades now (After I threw mine away to "Upgrade" to my PIAA ones.

 

How do you like the 5.29's so far? I'll be getting mine installed in a few days. I just switched to a 3rd gen, from a 2nd gen reg cab. I had 5.29's in the reg cab and they were nice on the street and the highway, but amazing off road! That added gearing gave so much more low speed control in 4lo. I knew when I got this truck I was going to gear it.

 

Never heard about that part then again I was young, those early year extra cabs had some interesting issues. Some cabs and beds were painted in different countries so sometimes the paint didn’t match. Those manual Trd sports were faaast. The 3rd gen is so much beefier.

 

$500 for window tint?!?!?!
That seems extremely steep.

Out of curiosity, what are you guys paying for gears + installation, if you don't mind me asking. You can DM me if you don't want to put it out there publicly. It's on my list of things to do, just trying to ballpark what I need to budget for.

 

Yikes... there was a TRD Pro at the dealer here back in December when I bought my SR5 that was about $4,000 less than what they're asking for that.

The price varies a lot! When I had my 2nd gen done, it was 4k, before the ARB lockers and air compressor. I'll be going down to SoCal next week and it will be less that 4k, including a front locker and air compressor. They said just the gears will be $2100. That is also with polished gears, so I don't have to worry about the break in period on my 150 mile drive home. Call around and find a shop the specializes in gears. If you don't mind pulling your own 3rd members, East Coast Gear Supply is another great option to save money.

 

Thanks! I'm ridiculously over the moon about how it turned out. It's like I fell in love with the truck all over again (not that I didn't love it before).

I especially love the 6" LED bars that are mounted in the wings.

I can't take credit for the cuts. Had some help from a TW Member and fellow Pittsburgher, disconnected (I don't know how to tag a member). He did all of the cutting.

 

I guess I never really looked at what the SR5 trim level would have gained me over my SR. I do know I would have gotten factory fog lights and turn signal mirrors. Any other key options that justify the price hike over the SR ? I mainly miss the turn signal mirrors and the door unlock by touching the door handle that my 4Runner ORP had. Having to grab my key every time is getting on my nerves.

 

Right on. I was figuring around $3k for gears plus install. I did talk with Mainline Off-Road, which is outside of Philly. They told me they were going to have my truck all week while they did several fluid changes and the break in. That said, they never got back to me with an estimate.
