What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Out of curiosity, what are you guys paying for gears + installation, if you don't mind me asking. You can DM me if you don't want to put it out there publicly. It's on my list of things to do, just trying to ballpark what I need to budget for.

 

Yikes... there was a TRD Pro at the dealer here back in December when I bought my SR5 that was about $4,000 less than what they're asking for that.

The price varies a lot! When I had my 2nd gen done, it was 4k, before the ARB lockers and air compressor. I'll be going down to SoCal next week and it will be less that 4k, including a front locker and air compressor. They said just the gears will be $2100. That is also with polished gears, so I don't have to worry about the break in period on my 150 mile drive home. Call around and find a shop the specializes in gears. If you don't mind pulling your own 3rd members, East Coast Gear Supply is another great option to save money.

 

Thanks! I'm ridiculously over the moon about how it turned out. It's like I fell in love with the truck all over again (not that I didn't love it before).

I especially love the 6" LED bars that are mounted in the wings.

I can't take credit for the cuts. Had some help from a TW Member and fellow Pittsburgher, disconnected (I don't know how to tag a member). He did all of the cutting.

 

I guess I never really looked at what the SR5 trim level would have gained me over my SR. I do know I would have gotten factory fog lights and turn signal mirrors. Any other key options that justify the price hike over the SR ? I mainly miss the turn signal mirrors and the door unlock by touching the door handle that my 4Runner ORP had. Having to grab my key every time is getting on my nerves.

 

Right on. I was figuring around $3k for gears plus install. I did talk with Mainline Off-Road, which is outside of Philly. They told me they were going to have my truck all week while they did several fluid changes and the break in. That said, they never got back to me with an estimate.

That seems like a bargain compared to $312 for floor mats. They are $165 or less from the parts department. I just sold my carpeted ones on Craigslist yesterday for $30. Bought the OEM all-weather mats from another owner for $45

 

It will make a difference for your heat transmission for sure, just be aware that your tint is illegal in Colorado. Hopefully your law enforcement isn't too anal about it and won't care. It looks great

eeek! They are! Did you remove them? If so, did the adhesive stick well enough to make it difficult to remove?

 

Can I go to any discount tire and wheel shop, I am in Western Mass.

 

Considering about 25% of the cars on the road here in CO have expired plates (and a handful with no plates at all!) - I wouldn’t worry about it. I think cops have completely given up enforcing any minor traffic offense since Covid

 

Sounds like here in FL. Unless you piss the cop off or they pull you over for something else they don't really care about tint. Or lifts for that matter.

 

When did SR5 come with turn signals?

 

Thats what happened here in MN. I see nearly blacked out windshields all the time, people with no plates, running red lights, turning from straight lanes.... its become lawless here with how people drive.

I have watched people run reds right infront of cops and they do nothing anymore.

 

I have the stick on rings from a seller on Amazon and they are still black after 6 months. So the original advice from the other member of "watch them" is probably good but you may also be fine, depending on which seller you got them from.
Mine were inexpensive enough that if I had to replace them I wouldn't be too upset.
