Yes, exactly. With some better MPG's thrown in there.
The truck is annoyingly programmed to get into 6th as fast as possible to propel the truck along at 1000 rpm's in the city to keep emissions down. So basically pick your poison. Cylinder deactivation or stop start. I'll take the eco-emissions programming. At least we can get a tune to get somewhat normal shift points in the entire driving range. I would imagine the tune increases emissions tho.

So, ultimately, this is why manufacturers are being forced to go with Turbo 4 cylinders so they can further decrease emissions of Co2. Edit: sorry, import as well. Also going after harmful emissions of Nox.

Yep, let's get to zero emissions asap as those so environmentally friendly giant batteries are going to save the planet (that and "sunshine and breezes", right?). But shut up, don't you know electricity just comes "from the wall plug"? Glad to have seen the Toyota CEO looks at EVs sideways, so to speak - way too flawed. He thinks hydrogen is better bet.

I cant get into too much more detail, but we test our tunes with our 5-gas analyzer. You might be surprised with what we can do! ;)

It’s pretty obvious to me you don’t know what you’re talking about with this subject.

But either way, this thread is about OTT on gas engines, so you don’t have to spread that FUD around this thread.

Came across a post on facebook saying this happened a week after they got OTT tune. Someone commented “ if the cylinder temperatures get too hot from too much timing,it can cause the coolant to expand and come out of the path of least resistance.” I’m just curious does anyone here think that comment holds any water or think this has anything to do with the tune? I recently got tuned and love every bit of it. This made me a little nervous. Just curious on everyones thoughts on this. Thanks

I've never seen antifreeze do this before. I'd say it's someone on Facebook promoting another tune, doping a picture. Hell the stuff is totally dry.

It’s just a coolant leak from a hose not properly seated during assembly. That’s it. Seat the hose properly with the clamp and problem solved.

I could have sworn I saw the same pics but saying he had the tune for a month, not a week.

You know what he did say “last month” has to be same post but I guess what my question is it possible the tune caused this?

Just got my 2018 2.7L tuned by WickedMatt. It was a smooth experience. Ive only gotten through one full tank but already seeing 1-2 mpg better on my routine drives. I'm thinking about making a youtube video about it because theres very little info about 2.7L tunes in general. I am also running LCE headers and by-passing the AC with a shorter serpentine belt so I might be a very unique example. WickedMatt put my tune on normal setting and ECT button has the high setting when I press it. This combo works great for my style. I cant see me using the high setting unless I was towing something or had a heavy load in the bed. I'll answer any questions the 2.7 guys might have here.

Hi everyone, new to Tacoma World but not new to having had a 2nd gen, now 3rd gen Taco. I just wanted to give a shout out to Justin and the gentlemen responsible for creating OTT as it's just simply an amazing tune and makes the 3rd gen so much more enjoyable to drive! Also, for those on a lite/mild setting that don't know or aren't aware, Justin has created a "hybrid" to combine both and let me just say it's phenomenal! I have my tuner here in SA (Ryan) taking great care of me. If anyone is reading this and contemplating on getting this tune, just get it already, it will change your Taco into a fantastic driving experience day in and day out!

Again, BIG thanks to Justin and the whole OTT team!

Can't imagine driving our Taco without an OTT tune now. :burnrubber:

We have light/mild. Works well, but I'm curious, what's the difference in the "hybrid" tune?

    TIA and enjoy!

I'd be really curious to know what the "hybrid" is too!

Well I'm not very mechanical haha but basically, it changes the tip in or smoothing out the start from a stop. If you have mild engaged at a stop sign and take off it can be a little "jerky" or put you back in your seat. This hybrid starts you off in lite, then gradually moves into mild without you having to push the ECT button if you used it with highway driving like me. I'm sure Justin can/will provide a much better explanation (my apologies Justin if I let the cat out of the bag per say) lol

Got my supercharged 2013 Taco tuned today by Brody with Saskatchewan Overland Tuning, with support from Justin. Thanks to both for their help and knowledge. I wanted to give an early update on my impressions with putting some miles on it. This is just first blush - will connect again later to see about fuel economy and any other thoughts once I settle into the tune.

Tune seems to have more integration between the supercharger and the transmission shift points. Previous to tuning the supercharger was doing all the work as it would take a lot of pedal input for the tranny to shift down on light to moderate acceleration - the supercharger would just whine from 1200 rpm up without shifting. Now the transmission finds the right gear to match throttle input and the supercharger power. It does hold the gear a bit longer than I expected before shifting but seems to work out… time will tell.

Tranny shifts are MUCH smoother. On the bully dog tune I would get the occasional hard shift, and on some occasions I actually got violent shifts.

Power is more linear to the pedal input. The supercharger comes on earlier but is more reactive to what pedal input you are giving it. Slight acceleration only causes some supercharger input and allows the engine to do some of the work. You can drive the vehicle more sedately if you wish until you actually need the power. The engine rpm seems to be working with the supercharger rather than the disconnect I felt before.

On the highway the total package doesn’t seem to be working as hard. Less throttle input seems to be needed to maintain speed.

I think the best way to describe this is before the OTT tune the supercharger always felt like an add on to the truck, now it feels like its part of the truck.

Hope that help someone - I'll update in a while once I get more seat time.

And shout out to Justin for remembering me from when I had the truck tuned by him over 5 years ago before OTT - appreciate the personal input!

I figured I'd update my experience with the OTT tune for the MT guys. I just got back from a 200 mi road trip, the 2nd road trip since I got my OTT tune. The freeway posted speed is 75mph here. If you're not doing 80-85mph your getting run over. My truck with the stock tune ran great at those speeds but mpg's suffered. As the MT guys know, 430 gears and the MT is not mpg friendly at high freeway speeds. I didn't think the OTT tune would make much of a difference here. I thought wrong. I picked up 2 mpg's here. I waited until after the second trip to be sure before I posted. I guess the added torque between 200-3000 RPM just required a little less throttle input to maintain speed. Hell, I just got the OTT tune to help me with low end torque pulling my camper, this is just added benefits that I didn't expect. Thanks again Justin and OTT tune.

I had the tune done in February of 2023 by John Brewer in Albuquerque. It has been smooth sailing for the entire time. Can't say my mileage changed any, but the power down lower really helps. Thanks John!
