The correct answer to any sentence that starts with "What's a good whiskey for..." is always Wild Turkey 101, no matter how the sentence ends.

Just got home from 3 days in Louisville. Had a great time with my girlfriend. This was our second trip there, the first one she did not like whiskey at all. This time she was more excited than I was for a couple of the tastings.

We crammed a lot of bourbonage into 3 days:
    Old Forester Tour/Tasting
Angel's Envy Tour/Tasting (most interactive tour)
Maker's Mark Tour/Tasting/ bottle dip (best tour, tour guide and grounds)
Heaven Hill Tasting (best gift shop)
Four Roses Cox Creek Tour/Tasting (worst tour/tasting)
Rabbit Hole (best variety in tastings)
Evan Williams Speakeasy Tour (most fun tour and tour exclusive bottles)
Michter's Discovery Tour / Tasting (most disappointing tour, tasting of 10 year kept it above 4 roses)
Stitzel Weller Tasting (most surprising and most fun employees)

In addition to all of this I was able to pick up my 100th bottle of bourbon, Wild Turkey 12 year and the 5 Keys Club cup for @Hook78 @klavender1 @SwampYota @hxp05560. Was super fun and the lady who helped me had me do a full on photo shoot which was hilarious. I'll try to get the cup out to one of you shortly!

Dude! Thank you for going above and beyond, sounds like you had a great trip.

Curious what WT is that in the box?

    How was the Michter’s 10?

Please keep the cup and enjoy for at least a mint julep or five :) once you’re ready to pass it along it should go to @SwampYota first as he ponied up two keys if memory serves.

My favorite tasting was at Whiskey Thief / Three Boys Farm

they’re so underrated because they’re tiny but their juice is a heavy hitter

Will definitely put the cup to good use this week before sending off to @SwampYota.

That is the Wild Turkey 12 year (101 proof) I have been hunting since February. It's a Japan only release.

Michter's 10 was great. Undecided if I'd pay for a bottle over $200. Though it was leaps and bounds above anything else we sampled there tons of flavor and no burn. Funny enough they include a version of their rye with an entry proof of 125 to show why the 103 they use is better.. I loved the 125

Some of the other pours I got to sample this week I was excited about were...

Weller Antique 107 ($7/oz) was flavorful but packed some heat, would buy around 50 if I could
Stagg batch 18 ($15/oz) was fantastic. Best of the week
Elmer T Lee ($15/oz) fantastic, hunt justified
JD 10 Year Batch 2 ($20/1.5oz) good but solidified my choice to only buy at MSRP
Barrel Seagrass (free sample) not my palate. Heavy rye.. GF enjoyed it
Frank August ($25 /2 oz) was fine but don't get the hype around it, tasted "generic"
Chattanooga 111 ($20/2oz) was good, very different in a way I can't describe, almost a juniper taste to it

I hope to score a JD 10 yr or 12 yr when it hits PA. It's been coming soon for awhile now.

I thought that WT might be the 12 year, that’s a great score.

    Yeah Stagg is special stuff.

Thoughts on the Michter’s American Whiskey? That and the Sour Mash are essentially allocated here. I love the sour mash, never had the whiskey.

Definitely not a bad pour. I was pleasantly surprised by it. It gets a negative connotation (at least to me) because it doesn't qualify as bourbon. According to our tour guide the reason is that they reuse some of the barrels in each batch. No reason given as to why. I found it sweeter than the regular bourbon and a little nicer.

If you want a bottle of it, let me know, relatively easy to get here in PA

I saw it somewhere recently so it does come around…I’m just trying to be judicious about new bottle acquisition.

Has anyone ever tried the Hooten and Young 15? I honestly know very little about the brand aside from much of their stuff being memorial themed.

Scooped a bottle out of curiosity at the ABC store the other day because it was on allocation.
