I’ve had a sunroof or moonroof in almost every vehicle I’ve owned since the mid eighties. Never had one leak.

While I would agree the rarely seem to have problems, IF they do, it's not just the repair time and costs, but the inconvenience of having a leaky or open roof. Usually the openings are so small, and they just let heat and noise in. The risk isn't worth the reward for me.

This is why I do not need a sunroof:

Sunroof on my 2016 started leaking 1-2 years ago and finally figured out what was wrong and fixed it this spring. All my cars have sunroofs and most are parked outside all the time and in over 20 years and a handful of cars it was the only one to ever leak. My next vehicle will also have a sunroof.

Had a 91 civic with 250k + miles with sunroof, no leaks. So far the sunroof in my taco has been trouble free, I use it a lot too.

All sunroofs leak to a degree. The degree may be very small, but it's there. Modern cars (Tacoma included) design the trucks with this in mind. There are drain holes in the roof cavity as well as a track along the rear seal that redirects any water that may leak in, safely away to the incorporated drains and out through tubing in the A and C pillars.

If you dont want your roof to leak... dont cut a hole in it. (yes I have a sport with a sunroof, that has never been opened). Ski

And they need flushing out occasionally. Mine started to leak and one of the tubes was blocked by pine needles a mud. Blew it out with compressed air and it fixed it.

6-1 here... I've had no issues with headroom - and I've raised the seat quite a bit...

Have had sunroof on several vehicles including dual (front and rear), and full roof sunroofs...One wss around for 22 years.

Not a single issue - ever...

The sunroof is great. I don't use it a ton, but I do use it...

It is an additional opening - but if you are going to have an accident of the kind that will launch you out the sunroof, it means you are not belted-in, and you will not be very happy staying inside and bounced (shaken, not stirred) around the interior either...

I bet the sunroof is the least of your problems as most incursions and ejection from vehicles are via the front and side glass...

So, will you be welding Your windshield opening closed?

So get the sunroof, you would then be able to use a periscope through the sunroof...

There are two kinds of sunroofs. Those that leak and those that will leak. The chances of ever getting a roof leak without a sunroof is pretty much zero. Excluding the area where the xm antenna and the 3rd brake light are.

Definitely a hater; do some roofs leak? Yes. Do they all leak? Hell no.

not pro or con on a sunroof. ultimately i keep my vehicles for a long time and alot of miles. With that in mind it makes more sense to get an SR with less to go wrong vs other trim packages as long as it had the basics i need /want. KISS "Keep It Simple Stupid"

They all will Shipmate, hate to break that to you, but it will happen. Definitely will happen with an aftermarket sooner than an OE, but at some point they will leak. It is inevitable. Almost as inevitable as admitting that the Marines are part of the Navy.

I have had owned over 25 cars in the last 20 years and except two all had oem sunroofs. Some of these cars are now almost 20 years old (my LS430) and I have had not one leak on me. I guess to each his own, but for me the benefits far outweigh the potential downsides which may never happen over the usable lifetime of the car anyway.

LOL, eventually even a solid metal top will leak.
