What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Some area dealerships, Toyota included, have been adding ResistAll and adding upwards of 2k to MSRP for it. The stuff is a simple spray on treatment. Better off with a properly applied ceramic coating after paint correction, just my opinion. Thankfully my dealer honored my deposit and didn't put that crap on my '22 Pro when I reserved it in 12/21.

 

Right, and they keep doing it because people that don't know any better keep paying it. Funniest of all, when I was working my deal, when I started arguing with them about the extra fees and I stated I wasn't paying it, the manager that came out kept lowering his voice, I guess in an attempt to get me to lower mine. I wasn't trying to speak loud or anything, but my voice does carry and I realized they were observing the other customers in the showroom catching wind of the conversation. Every time I spoke, my initial several words of rebuttal to whatever they were saying, would make the manager kind of flinch and resume a whisper talk. I caught on to this after he did it the second time, so I may be guilty of messing with him a bit.

 

The Toyota dealer here has nothing in stock. You’ll see gmc and jeeps on display on the riser in the corner. I saw some new Tacomas like 5? Well at least 3rd gen but they are gone in days.

I think I got mine off ebay, probably the same person.

 

In preparation for my Diamondback cover I decided to do a bit of bed sealing. I don't expect it to be completely water and dust proof, but figured I would do a few things that might help before I get the Diamondback cover.

- Installed a an ESI Rok Block tailgate gap cover. I mounted it under my Mountain Hatch since it's cleaner that way
- I removed the side bed rail covers and masked all the holes with 3M aluminum tape
- Removed the bulk head/header rail and tried using automative weather seal underneath but it was too thick so I ended up using Butyl Tape
- Added foam seals from RealTruck.com on each end of the bulk/header rail.
- I also added a layer of butyl tape along the inner portion of the side tail from front to back
- Filled the leftover gap between the bulk head and side of the bed with Butyl tape

The only thing I haven't installed yet is my ESI Ultimate tailgate seal, which I will do tomorrow.

A friend also printed me some cubby hole covers which I also plan on installing.

It might not do much but if any of these helps it's a plus.

I'm also lucking for small rubber plugs that I can use on the front drain holes. I thought drip system plugs would work but they are just a hair too small.

 

Impressive. Also consider the holes in the little cubby on the pax side, and the sides where the bed and tailgate meet (unless that is what the ESE seal is for).

 

I did mention the cubby holes. A friend with a 3D printer printed me some covers for those but I haven't received them yet.

Yes I'm hoping the ESI tailgate seal will help seal each side of the tailgate. I just ran out of time today to install those, will do that tomorrow.

Did a couple of mods the past couple of days:
First was the MESO puddle pods. There was a killer 4th of July sale on the MESO website that I couldn’t pass up. Scored 50% off.
Not the greatest picture right now but I’ll edit in some better ones after the truck gets a bath tomorrow.

I chose ones with the voltage meter and on/ off button. May play around with replacing the cigarette lighter with one of these too. ( next mod)

car buying has changed

 

It’s not a bracket or lift kit but I did use a new wax on top of my regular sealant. Haven’t washed it since September.. it’s got some shine. Not exactly an easy application.

 

I added some puddle pods a couple months ago, love em… can’t wait til winter time here with shorter days so they will actually be useful. Also I’ve been waiting on the puddle switch kit which has been unavailable for what seems like forever.

 

That’s what the salesman say, I try to keep in mind somethings only worth what somebody’s willing to pay for it. Sometimes you can get lucky at auctions with no reserve.
