Anyone have experience with the new Freespirit Aspen Lite? It's pretty light and the dimensions have me thinking that I can run it flush with the roof without hitting the rear of the cab or my spare tire on the swingout.

 

Just got mine, installing it soon

 

I ended up ordering it, along with a 13" Yakima rack so it should sit close to flush with the roofline of the cab. Probably going to have to drop a 1.25" spacer onto my swingout'a spare tire mount to get it to fit between the cab and tire with some breathing room.

Out of curiosity, did the shipping company contact you about scheduling the delivery appointment, or did you have to reach out to them?

 

I have the Sky Camp mini on and no issues with speeds over 70-80 on the highways…

 

They (ABF) contacted me through phone for a day it will be delivered.

 

They contacted me and scheduled delivery for today. When I had a feeling it wasn't actually going to show when I hadn't gotten a call in advance of them arriving, I called and... they somehow lost the pallet and will get back to me when they find it? Great.

 

I folded the tent for the first time on the truck. Have to decide a good sheet option as the bed size is 95x48. Might go with a duvet over, I think that would at least stay. Excited to be using the tent coming up very soon. Any suggestions on “must” haves for the tent?

 

My delivery was delayed too. Supposed to be there on Friday then changed to Monday, then Tuesday, then finally Wednesday I know the feeling.

 

Must have: good led strip light inside and powered off a USB power bank would work wonders.

 

Very good suggestions. I ordered a small battery operated fan with a light but will need to wire up a LED strip that wouldn’t need batteries or charging would be a great idea.

 

A small USB power bank from Amazon will work. They have enough power to last a few days of camping. Just a thought. Mine is a 22,000 mah power bank.

 

Awesome thanks! I’ll probably go that route then. I have a couple of trips planned in about 4 - 6 weeks so hopefully I’ll be able to get it all ready to go!

 

I second interior lighting. I went with "fairy lights." They are subtle, not too bright. I can leave them strung up inside the tent, even when folded. Been working for two years. The pair well with a small solar power bank.

Awesome, thank you! I think that’s going to be the first thing I do to the tent then is lighting and a power bank. Do you just use a sleeping bag or do you have sheet on the mattress?

 

My tent came from Roam Adventure. I bought a fitted sheet from them, although I do use a sleeping bag in cold weather:

 

Ah mine is 95x48 inches so I’m considering a duvet cover as a sheet…then probably a sleeping bag like you when it’s colder outside

 

I'm using the WEW mounts with my Billie Bars + Ikamper mini 2.0 and would recommend them if you can bite the cost or find them secondhand like I did. One thing to note though is that you will have to cut the iKamper 1.0 slides in half in order to make it work with the security mounts (the slide needs to be 2 pieces that can move independently on either side of the bar).

Oh.. and for the love of god PLEASE make sure you use anti-seize on those horrible cheap iKamper bolts. I stripped 3 of them and had to order replacements on Amazon because NOWHERE sells that particular size in stainless metric.

I have yet to have a hardware need they couldn't fulfill, and quickly too.

 

I checked and can confirm they do sell the particular carriage bolt I was looking for! Will definitely use this place in the future, thanks.

 

Got the Freespirit Aspen Lite installed last week, and tried it out over the weekend (one night with the lady and the pup, and the other night solo). Shoutout to @Will1193 for stopping by (on his way to a wedding, no less) and helping me lift the RTT onto the rack, and @El Taco Diablo for hooking it up with a pair of his old Spidertrax, so that I could space out the spare tire for clearance. IIRC, I've got just shy of 2.5" between the cab and the front hinges, and a little over an inch between the spare and the rear latch.

Initial thoughts: It's awesome, and just the right size. Easy to close, provided you get the air out of the mattress, and makes for a quick takedown. Pretty comfortable mattress, too, and it self-inflates pretty fast with two valves.
