I guess I'll add my book recommendation for an easy read on Vietnam FACs. An aquantance spent his two tours on the wrong side of the border and everything he did was classified. I guess for PTSD therapy, he wrote two novels about his time there that combined his stories along with those he flew with. The books are fiction, but everything in them came from his time in country. Easy reading with a lot of stories. He was promised an OV-10 and ended up with a Skymaster.

    Just the basics
    Regarding Air America...
My father told me about the days of being furloghed from American Airlines during the Vietnam War. Another American Airlines pilot who he was friends with began flying with Air America and was being paid in gold while living in Thailand. My father strongly considered flying for Air America but instead picked up more time as a reserve USAF pilot. He retired from American Airlines as a senior captain in the late 80s.

Ahhh the OV-10. That was my goal as a pilot in the Marine Corps. Such a cool aircraft. Runner up is the herc!

...^^^... That "domestic flight" is longer than many int'l flights.

When I fly to Asia, 2 good ways for me to start the first part of my trip .... NY to Hong Kong (15 hours) or Atlanta to Doha (15 hours) ...

difficult flights IF you get crazy kids or passengers (since I fly coach).

PS ... Have you had to kick any people off the aircraft yet ??

I've been lucky in my 17 hour flights to Taiwan... I haven't had to deal with crazy in cattle class (yet)

I took this video of the Trimotor and then thought I’d messed up because I couldn’t find it in the camera. Turns out videos just aren’t reviewable I guess because when I downloaded the memory card after getting home from vacation it was there.

That’s pretty awesome. I was hoping they’d only have one guy at the controls so I could try to pull the “I’m a rated aviator can I sit there?” card.

Common saying I've heard in relation to The BUFF - that when the B-1 and B-2s are retired, the crews will be flown back to base by a B-52!

I wish I'd had time. Flew up this time and had to provision our Bighorn trip when I got there and then was over in Craig after Ft Smith. 12 day whirlwind trip leading 20 guys at the Bighorn and on the Mo fly fishing.

I'll be back up in Oct and will definitely have time for a beer or coffee.

I'll add my favorite Vietnam book to the mix too. Read it as a kid and I've thought attack helicopters were the coolest ever since.
