It started with amsoils 2 stroke interceptor oil that many snowmobile owners were using, as dealers were pushing it as the best injector oil for your sled. That oil was their latest synthetic, but it was later found to have poor protection against rust, or corrosion during the summer season when the sleds weren't used. There were a few guys that had engine failures the following season. When the engines were pulled apart, they had light surface rust on all the crank components, as if they never saw any oil on them. Basically they had dry engine internals. From that point, guy's started calling it scamsoil.

I think this getting cancer from used motor oil thing is just BS. Do we see mechanics dropping dead from cancer after having their hands in 1000 oily engines?

Has anybody got data on this?

I've been handling all sorts of 2, and 4 stroke motor oils, along with various grease's since a teenager. Now 70, I should have been dead years ago. Another friend of mine, healthy as a mule with a large auto repair shop, 10 years older than me, has been handling petrol products a lot longer, is still working, and managing his shop. Says he'll be there till they carry him out.
Idk, about todays generation....seems they can get sick, or cancer from almost anything. Heck at when we were young kids, we ate, and played in dirt while outside all day. I think we developed an immunity to lot of bugs that these kids get today.

Meh. Grandfather smoked for 40 years and was a welder in the mines, live till 88. Father smoked for 30 years, lived to 82.

That doesn't mean there isn't a correlation between smoking and lung cancer. You have to look at the statistics for those kinds of conclusions

    Rofl!

If you can't smell fresh dirt and immediately remember what that tasted like....

Totally off topic, was talking with a coworker about carrots of all things. Made the comment about how feesh dirty carrots taste amazing and he said he never had a carrot fresh out of the garden. It put me aback for a moment thinking about all the folks who have never tasted a carrot fresh out of the garden with only a firm smack to knock the dirt off.

Known for a while that "dirt" (if you will) builds immune systems of the young. "Helicopter parent" raised kids have little chance for many social & physical reasons...

It's all in our genes when it comes to smoking, or handling hazardous chemicals. I knew a guy here that smoked all his life, and ended up dying of bladder cancer while in his mid 90's. Everyone croaks from something, it's just when.

Oh come now it sounds to me the folks didn't prep there stuff for the summer storage. This isn't limited to 2 stroke engines. But any excuse to put the blame elsewhere is what some use to compensate for self induced problems.

No oil thread in history on TW has ever reached a conclusion, but that doesn’t seem to deter people.
