I just picked up my Tacoma last Wednesday. It's my first brand new vehicle in a very long time. I usually buy 3-4 yr old used off lease vehicles. With the resale values of Tacomas right now, I thought a new vehicle made more sense. Since it was new, I did not have an inspection. Tuesday night, I happened to head to the passenger rear door and while approaching, I realized that the rear fender passenger flare was not painted. It appeared to be bare black plastic. Very dark, and close to my color, but not painted. I took it in Wednesday to report this and the service manager was stunned, saying he had never seen anything like this before. He said they are definitely going to make it right, but that he had to reach out to determine if it should be painted or if I should get a new flare. I'll post a follow up when they get back to me. Other than that, this truck is great!

    Edit: Added pictures.

That’s a new one from Toyota.

They’ll get you sorted out. Weird things happen.

Look closely at the under side of the fender to make sure there is no damage. I wonder if a painted flare was damaged prior to you taking delivery and replaced with a black flare.

Indeed, if this were indeed a mistake at the factory, then Toyota has deteriorated to Jeep quality...

Well my brand new 2023 truck had a few QC issues. A 10mm bolt left behind in top right cover on dash, and on both sides of the inner rear fender liners the bolts that secure it were pushed through/washers on inside. Noticed it when I did my first wash. I have never had things like this on any Toyota I have bought before this one. Made in Mexico= not impressed!

Happened to me with an Explorer years ago. Owned the thing for a year before I noticed the plastic door trim on one side was black and dark grey on the other. Turned out a shipping carrier had damaged the door while the truck was in transit and they repaired it on their own without the knowledge of or authorization from Ford. Created a whole thing between the two, but Ford set me right without any trouble on my end.

OP could be dealing with a similar situation.

Bed was way out of alignment
On mine, I couldn’t fit a shell on it correctly. They fixed it though.

A previous 2016 Sport came with a 4WD Sport bed sticker on the right and the 2WD bed sticker version on the left side. Truck was built during the very first month of 3rd gen production

My 2023 tacoma had a bad power steering pump right from the factory. Noticed it as soon as I picked it up. Drove off the lot and said to myself the steering seems awfully heavy and then 100 miles later it completely failed with zero power steering assist backing out of my driveway. Dealership replaced the pump and it’s been fine since.

Dealer addressed the wrong bed sticker on the 2016 2WD sport also. When I went to pick up the truck from dealer service, I noticed that the correct 2WD sticker had been replaced with a 4WD sticker in order to match the incorrect 4WD sticker on the other side. I did notice that the truck had better traction after I left the dealership.

Perhaps, too much mezcal was consumed on the day the op's truck was assembled.

I just took some pictures and then carefully looked it over. I did not see any signs of damage. Good thought.

Double check to see if that extra thick goopy layer of paint at the bottom of the panel.

    that's an OR fender flare.
While they might not admit it, the dealer probably fixed this on their end.

I highly doubt that made it through Toyota factory quality control . That had to be a port of entry repair or dealership repair
