Yeah, l never understood the idea of them changing the name to 500 when Taurus had been a successful nameplate.

Does anyone have any insight regarding when the G3>>>G4 production changeover will happen? Looks like one can still "order" a 2023.

I think the 500 and Taurus was sold simultaneously when the 500 debuted, then the Taurus was discontinued and Ford sold only sold the 500. Later the 500 was rebranded as the Taurus. That's how I recall it happening, could be wrong. Not that it makes a difference same thing happened 500 became the Taurus, and the Taurus name plate was already a household name. Made no sense, and probably cost Ford money in the process.

Was the 500 supposed to be a throwback to the Galaxie 500?

From Wikipedia (not best source but top hit):
Deriving its nameplate from the ''500" suffix used by Ford on the Custom 500, Fairlane 500 and Galaxie 500 model ranges from the 1950s to 1970s, the Five Hundred was the larger of two model lines intended to replace the Ford Taurus (the Ford Fusion being the smaller vehicle). Within the Ford model line, the Five Hundred was slotted between the Fusion and Crown Victoria.

I am assuming they thought 500 sounded more premium.

Awesome thanks @Hogleg918, at work doing 3 three things at once haven’t had a chance to dive too deep.

All I could think of is the Clutch song “Spacegrass” and the lyric Galaxie Five-O-O…

I was talking to my 2 local dealers and both said I can order a 2023 now and it would be ready in 2-3 months and that they were still putting in orders with that expectation. If I was to specify a 2024 then i'd have to put down the deposit and list model/options as closely as I am able to with the current info and they would update me with price when that info is available. Also the expectation for delivery was "sometime in the spring of 2024 but no promises".

Looks that way, I thought so but didn't know for sure. Buddy of mine his dad had a comet and I recall discussing the 500 with him. He was a Ford guy, I vaguely recall somone I knew having a Galaxy, but I can't remember who it was.

It’ll probably be very similar to the 2024 Lexus GX 550.

Given their track record, wouldn’t get your hopes up.

Did I miss the purpose of having 3 sharkfins? That looks pretty silly.

If I remember correctly when the engineer was asked, it mentioned that the purpose of the other 2 fins are to be used as a 2 way Radio antenna instead of the normal Antenna that comes with the equipment. Supposedly there is an outlet for your radio to use that fin. I might be wrong but I am pretty sure he said that

    EDIT:
Just saw that this is the option to put cameras when towing trailers so disregard!

Knowing Toyota, probably an option, and probably only lumped with the highest tiered option, lol.

also seems like the wheel archers are painted black and not just plain plastic which to me is good . Those plastics with time tend to fade especially in really hot climates!
