2023 TRD OR front coil color codes

Hi 3rd gen crew. Refreshing the suspension on my 2nd gen with some low mile 3rd gen take offs from a TRD OR.

Those that have a newer TRD OR what colored dots are on the driver side coil vs the passenger side coil.

From what I have read it should be red/green on driver and red/light blue pass? Just here to confirm.

This comes up every so often, but I’ve never read any conclusive evidence that and of the 3rd gen coil springs are any different, except for maybe the red ones on the Pro which might only differ in color.

Ditto for any evidence that they are the same. Lol

Intuition tells me that Toyota would not spend the money to procure and stock different coil springs for the left and right sides.

 

There are different parts numbers for left and right of all packages (TRD packages included).

So yeah those that say there aren't differences are wrong.

About the ONLY thing that doesn't have a different part number for coils is the TRD pro 2nd Gen stuff that used a different spring seat position on the shock to correct lean.

3rd gen TRD OR owners what are the colored dots on either side of the coils on your stock truck

 

They are 100% different left to right.

I found this one for a reference, I can check more tomorrow at work if I remember.

 

If you are referring to the part numbers on the public sites like parts.Toyota.com, I’m not sure how well you can rely on that. The information on those sites is confusing and inconsistent. I have heard the internal parts resources are more accurate. In any case, I have no authoritative information one way or the other.

 

OEM parts fiches are all the same.... Whether it be McGregor, camelback, , or your local dealer.

 

Anyone else confirm the color codes?

 

I would look for you, but mine are laying on the garage floor. If I ever had to put them back on, I would not worry about which side each went on.

 

You would till you had significant lean.

Curious if also anyone would know the color codes to TRD 4x4 SPORT shocks. I’ve found these for sale and would like to know which one went on which side.

 

I’ve got red and white on driver side, can’t imagine Toyota would have two different springs for the sport shocks or OR shocks

 

Many of us have 3rd party aftermarket coils and struts with no vehicle side designation and no issues with lean.

 

TRD OR trucks 2nd gen and on have always had different (progressive wound) coils vs the TRD Sport / Base / Sr5 trucks.

potentially, but many also rock a 1/4in lean spacer up front, taco lean has been very well documented.

Differences in coil springs has been discussed occasionally but I’ve never any conclusive evidence that there is any significant difference. The best info I know of is in this post:

I don’t know what you mean by “progressive wound”.

 

In the past, the Off Road model came with progressive front springs, and they are wound a bit different with the winds closer together on the top of the spring. This makes it initially softer in the travel, and as those winds come together it stiffens up a little (so, progressive spring rate). This was visually apparent on my 2nd gen when I swapped shocks, and there was also some rubber surrounding some of the winds. Not sure what they did on the 3rd gen, and I didn't pay attention to the colors when I swapped shocks on my 2nd gen. I didn't notice anything odd, but there's a 50/50 chance I guessed correctly when re-installing.

Surely someone with a stock 3rd gen Off Road should be able to chime in or provide picks of theirs.

Changing the characteristics of the spring along its length does not cause it to violate hooke’s law. The spring acts as a whole unit. In other words, there is no such thing as a progressive coil spring. CAVEAT: you can design a coil spring such that coil bind occurs at part of the spring at a certain compression. The coil causes the effective spring length to shorten and thus spring rate goes up. I do not believe Toyota has ever shipped any such coil spring from the factory.

2017 SR5 coils have same markings (red and grey dots) on both side, same part numbers.

 

Just checked my '22 Off-road, and I'm showing red/green on the passengers, and red/light blue for the drivers side.
