Bought HU and amp now need speakers

I settled on a HU and amp and now need to decide on speakers. I have read a lot on the forum here regarding the subject. I know the biggest thing is to go listen to them and I plan on it. But I at least wanted to try to get it narrowed down some by giving you some info on what I got HU and amp wise, what I want to spend and what type of music.

HU is Alpine CDA-105.
Amp is Alpine KTP-445 Power Pack
Looking to spend around $150.

Looking to not do a sub so I need some low end. I realize this is asking a lot from just front speaker upgrade but I plan on deadening the doors(already contacted Don and got a quote for material for front door deaden and sound proofing).

I listen to quite a variety but mainly rock, some metal, Beastie Boys is about as rap as I get(hahaha), country.

Was looking at the Polk DB6501, the Alpine 600c, and Infinity Reference 6.5" components.

Depending on how it sounds will depend if I add a sub in the futre but that wouldn't be for awhile. gain, I don't need pounding bass, just a decent low end and I'll decide from there. If that makes sense. Also would be leaving the factory speakers in the rear doows for now(bad idea? will the amp bow them?).

Have you already bought the stuff listed above?

are you willing to skip the power pack, and add a real amp instead? It will take more work, and you will have to find a place to mount the amp. But you can get a 4 channel, and only use 2 channels, then if you get a sub you can use the rear channels bridged to the sub.

Does your budget include front and read speakers, or front only?

 

Yes I bought the stuff already. I looked at doing a separate amp but did keep coming back to the power pack as I just didn't want to take on the task of running all the wiring and taking the seat out to put the amp in, etc..

I do think I'll be happy with the set up I just want to make sure I get speakers that have decent mid bass at least then like I said I'll go from there. If I feel I need more bass then I'll look at a powered sub or sepearte amp and real sub but we'll see.

The toughest part of simply reading to research is I don't really know what a "good" system sounds like...if that makes sense.....I have nothing to compare it to. I just know I am not happy at all with the factory sound. So anything more clear and crisp and louder than that will do I am sure.

But I am full aware too of how things snowball....as in I'll hear how much better even the set up I have sounds and I'll want more. hahaha

But for now the budget is just for front door speakers for the said 150-ish as I still have to buy bluetooth kit and steering wheel control and door deadening.

A great research resource is Crutchfield.com. The website has reviews and they even have 24 hour live customer support that has always been helpful for me.

It sounds like you got a good deal or maybe like Alpines. Good choice! A speaker set that I fell in love with while I worked was the Alpine Type S or what I own, the Type R. The R's are bassy - they'll make your mirror shake (amped up of course) but if you want more mid and clarity, the Type S's are great. The S's are right at your budget, while the R's are $50 more, but you might be able to negotiate a bit (that's the beauty of Crutchfield.)

Well, there are tons of good choices, and I'm not a brand homer who will tell you to use the one's I like... however, I will point you to the ones I just got that I believe are quite a step up from the one's you're looking at...

spend some time reading through the thread.. they're just a bit more than you were looking to spend. i've read a number of other threads on that site of people using them and they fall well above what you're looking at, and just slightly below the very high end speakers you'd spend 3-4x that easily on.

if not, i'd go with the polks.... just my opinion.

oh, and just disconnect and forget the rears if you want the best sq for your setup...
