Harbor Freight tools thread.

I had a pair of green Hardy gloves that got worn out. They had elastic cuffs vs. Velcro, which I preferred but they didn't have them stocked at my local store. I ended up buying these Hardy goatskin gloves on a whim. Tried them on in the store, they felt nice. Got home, went to put them on and they tore at the cuff immediately.

Anyone else have these? Wondering if I should return or give them another shot and exchange.

 

You can most likely take them back and exchange them. While this is a Harbor Freight thread I've been unimpressed with their gloves. Personally what I have found is these firmgrip gloves are the best for quality/price for general yardwork/building stuff, while these milwaukee leather gloves are great for puncture/cut resistance for more demo work jobs.

 

I bought a pair of their welding gloves a while back. Soft, fit well, and cheap. No complaints.

For mechanical work, I buy the Mechanix brand ones from my local auto parts store.

 

I have several pairs of these and am very happy with them.

 

I was hoping that maybe these were just a fluke and had a weak seam. I'll exchange them. My last Hardy pair, that wasn't leather, lasted almost three years.

 

I don’t get anywhere near that time frame from them, but I often pic up the basic black ones when they go on sale for $5. Nearly disposable at that price…I wear the gloves when running my lawn business. I’ve started wearing the leather palm ones and like them a lot. Haven’t worn out a pair yet. My only issue is the sizing. I’m almost always a L in any glove(basic black Hardy’s included) but with the leather palm I’m kinda in between the L and XL. A old pair of L’s fit good after stretching out, but not very good when new. The XL just feels a bit big.

 

Bought a bunch of air fittings at HF yesterday. Got a cheap regulator, discounted because it was an open package. Get it home only to discover that the reason it was returned is there is no needle on the dial! Looks like it was dropped as well. Have to return it, but I need some pegboard hooks anyway.

Next time I'm there I'll see if they just put it back on the rack.

 

I took out my HF torque wrench, which hasn't been used in a few years, to find I put it away without resetting it to zero. I think it was on 10lbs. Dumbass. I don't have a calibration tool or another wrench to test it. I will ask friends who may have one and see, but in the meantime, what do you think the odds are it is off? It's an inexpensive Pittsburg click wrench, so I wouldn't be out a lot of $.

if it was set that low odds are it isn’t off that much. I never use them that low in the range anyhow, for the 10-150 range I’d feel comfortable using around 30-130 with the best accuracy. Maybe find something you know you torqued before like lug nut and do a torque check.

 

You'll be fine, I very vaguely recall something about click style torque wrenches should be stored at like 10%-15% of the total capacity.

 

That seems about right, I work with calibrated/certified torque tools regularly and our requirement is usually to store the tools set to the lowest value within the calibrated range (i.e. 10in/lbs for 10-50in/lb or 40in/lbs for 40-200in/lb).

 

Too tired / lazy to post a picture, but the paint brushes (Avanti?) at HF are good. Dollar for dollar, way better than Lowe’s

 

That sounds like great advice. I can't recall where I heard/read it, but supposedly a torque wrench is only accurate down to 20% of the upper range; so in the case of the 10-150, I'd use it from 30-150 with confidence.

 

I've never seen a torque wrench that will go down to zero.... On many, if you crank them lower than min value it will eff them up. My HF torque wrenches will only fit inside the their box at a narrow range of settings anyway due to the shape of the inside. So that's what I store mine at...

 

We bought this to build a railroad tie retaining wall because my big corded DeWalt was overheating. We pre-drilled 200 3/8” holes with an auger bit. Then we drilled a bunch of 3/8” holes into concrete to surface mount some fence posts. I’m really impressed with it for the price.

 

Hey folks, anyone using either of these hydraulic table lifts? If so, any info would be appreciated

My intended use would be for small machine maintenance (lawn mowers, snow blower - under 300 lbs dry weight) and a rear bumper install. I know my uses fall within the lower rated table however I wouldn’t get either if they were a POS. Also, I’m a more is better type of consumer

 

Those are great. @Sociopenguin can attest to it. We've used it for tons of stuff and it can damn near lift the truck corner.

 

My dad has a hydraulic table that he got from HF, sorry dont know which one it is and it works great.
