An LS will be easier to swap than any of your suggestions (besides boosting the 3.5 which I agree with). It's physically smaller and has easy to use aftermarket plug and play stand alone controllers. The aftermarket is huge and it's plenty "advanced".

There's a reason they're so popular. Have a feeling LS swaps will become popular on these trucks as they age. They're still too new and expensive now for most people to hack up.

And I for sure want a 400-500 HP Tacoma. Just don't want to pay for it.

On power nation tv, extreme 4wheel drive recently did an ls swap in a tacoma. All looked factory when done.

I figured all that was the reason for the LS.

I had a modified N54 in my 335xi which put out more than 450 HP/500+ ft/lbs at the wheels at 18 psi. I had to upgrade to my brakes b/c it was too scary to drive w/o it. I only felt comfortable driving it full throttle on an empty highway. It was too fast to enjoy on well traveled streets.

Putting this HP/torque in a 6000 lb+ truck is less scary if driven correctly.

I currently have OV Tune twin turbo kit installed and its been a nightmare. I believe there are only two of us out of about 15 TW members who remain with the TT installed. The tuning side of the TT kit has been the main issue (which ironically Mat from OVT claimed was his forte).

The stock fuel pump can not support above 6-7 psi since there is discrepancy in fuel delivery to the pistons at the end of the fuel rails compared to the pistons at the beginning. Properly tuning the direct and indirect fuel injection system can compensate to a certain point but the solution is upgrading the fuel pump.

However, the stock fuel pump is a PWM (pulse width modulation) pump but the stock FPC is designed to run the pump in a non-pwm way. This has created difficulty switching out to an aftermarket pump without modifying the stock FPC. Mat from OV Tune tried to overcome this problem with tuning but never was successful.

Using the Lexus V35A-FTS fuel system may be a solution but doing the legwork costs money and time.

Stew from Meso customs blew up his 2GR-FKS V6 and tried to install a turbo charged I6 (might have been b58) but abandoned this for a V8 swap. FYI there is a 3rd Gen tacoma that is using the twin turbo V6 from Cadillac CTS

I guess I might be the 3rd guy that still has a TT and haven’t had any issues. It actually runs great. Sorry you’ve had difficulty. No trouble with fuel delivery either (6-7psi, little snails) just nut and bolting all the time. That said, I’m on this thread because an LS3 swap would be awesome and eventually my motor will go. About half there at 100k.

    Stock for now
I get tempted every now and then but having my Tacoma dead nuts reliable and everything fuction as normal wins out. I bought a shit box to swap and have fun with. Taco stays on daily duty only gets minor mods.

The diesel toys conversion is cool too but at 30k it's steep.

I liked it initially. I just didn't like the fact that he was swapping out the cluster and some controls for GM ones. But then again, I wasn't the one doing the build.

    @Drewthecarguy

But the issue with selling a heavily modified vehicle is your market shrinks significantly. Modifications don’t add a ton a value, just make it harder to find the right buyer.

That's all a latest gen swapped v8 will fetch? Bummer, seems low for the investment.

Motor is out of a 2012 Camaro, body had 180k miles on it. I don't think that is all that bad.

Seems about as much (or less) then a stock 2016 would sell for.

Glad to hear you are still running the turbos since OV tuning has abandoned the TT kit project. I agree with LS swap

Positive update on Powermax TT kit. I switched back to OEM fuel pump and pump controller & have been working with Ziggy (Marc) from
Yota Werx Tuning on a tune. Now running great at 8 psi without misfires.

Thanks to both Ziggy (Marc) for tuning help and JamesT (who provided upgraded fuel rail, upgraded turbo oil drain).

I highly recommend Yota Werx Tuning for NA or FI applications (Maggy SC or TT) for Tacoma
