Kind of a bummer to read about these paint/clear coat issues.

My truck is parked outside all year round, because my garage is shallow. It'll fit, but just barely - like wall to door, no wiggle room. My girlfriend's car gets a spot and we use the other half to sit, drink, relax.

That said, even though it's PA, I decided to get a car cover to try to head this off before it becomes an issue. I don't anticipate getting rid of my Tacoma or moving any time soon, so the parking situation isn't going to change.

    Sorry ya'll are experiencing this.

I’ve had two Tacomas, never waxed either of them. No issues with failing paint, even with running it through a car wash a few times a week…

I'm sure the sun in our neck of the woods isn't nearly as big of an issue as these California boys.

Commiefornia that’s what happened to mine I had it repainted by a guy in chino for 1100 (roof and hood because once your roof goes your hood is next) he did an awesome job and nobody could tell

The hood and roof on my Inferno got so bad on my 2018 that I had them wrapped in satin black. Pretty disappointing for a vehicle this new.

Maybe you gave your trucks paint too much love. I had big issues with my tundras paint clear coat peeling off, and I wax the truck at least once a year. When I got my 1st tacoma in 2020 I had a professional ceramic glass coating done. After 3 1/2 years the paint is perfect like it was just done. I was told never to wax the truck, and avoid washing it. They told me it never needs to with this type of paint protection. As far any warranty from toyota to cover this after this long, and what's the truck been through in its past....you gotta be dreaming.

Never wax it? Ok, I get it. Ceramic coat. Don't wash it though? o_O

Have you had an estimate on the cost to fix. Weather can be rough on a vehicle. I'm surprised about this because Toyota usually has great paint.

Wow this inspires me to hurry up and get a shop built with tall doors so that I can garage it lol. I was planning on doing it anyway. My current garage is small and the Taco is too tall.

It's what this shop that did the coating on it recommends....trucks outside 24/7. We get enough rain here in the New England, that makes the finish sparkle like new after a good rain storm. All dirty crap just slides right off. We'll see how this hold's up way down the road, but so far I'm liking it very much.

Happens everywhere I live inland empire and my truck is saturated with dew so heavily some mornings I think it rained the night before also I’ve seen a lot of Toyotas that were day one SoCal Toyota trucks with scaling surface rust that lived it’s entire life in SoCal so just because it’s a California vehicle doesn’t really mean much, obviously not saying they’re equivalent to Midwest trucks by any stretch but they’re not impervious

I’ve had my professionally applied rhino liner for several years and have had no issues. It’s not cracked. I did get the special UV resistant version though.

In fact it has saved my roof from paint damage several times, paying for itself.

OP what type of wax have you been using? May want to switch to something else as seems it may not be doing a great job of blocking UV rays.

I ceramic coat mine every 2 years with Gtechniq CSL & EXO and don’t have any issues yet, even with harsh Florida sun.

I'm interested to see how this plays out. How long is the coating supposed to last?

I've got a dark blue Corolla and the paint was oxidizing fast regardless of how much care I was using on the car. So I solved the problem. Toyota has a rattle canned mint green Corolla running the streets and I get a lot of positive comments on the color... and usually tell them why. Of course bad publicity is better than no publicity nowadays so I suppose Toyota is fine with it.

Idk yet, only that it's guaranteed for the life I own the truck. So far it's been 3 1/2 years, and it still appears as it was just done. I'll keep on it, and post if anything changes.
