I know I post a similar pic each time but when I walk out my front door this is what greets me. Something about being so close to the front range does it for me.

After the rain came this afternoon

 

Not an entry:

Went on a little hike today. This is about 5 mins from where we are. Beautiful day. Pikes Peak in the background

 

Beautiful day? Hot as balls day and it’s only going to get worse.

Cab overs are almost like unicorns anymore.

 

Lol... If you came where I just moved from? Today was a beautiful day. If this is hot? I'll take this anyday. It was almost 100 degrees with 100% humidity today where we lived up until the end of May today. You walk outside to get your mail and by the time you get back in you are sweating. You get out of the shower and you feel like you need another shower because you are sweating. You basically have to swim to your car because of the oppressive amount of humidity. Never even broke a sweat on the hike we took today.

I've spent 23 years waiting to move out here. We went on a long hike North of Palmer Lake a couple weeks ago and never even broke a sweat. If it's only going to get worse means high 80's and "maybe" touching 90 with no humidity? I'm in.

I've worn turnouts when it was 116 degrees outside with a heat index of well over 120 in the summer all while going into a structure fire where it is well over 800 degrees. Did that for 28 years. I don't miss the heat. It never used to bother me but now it does. So today was perfect for me.

*EDIT* Now if I can get it to stop raining each day that would be perfect. We've been here almost 2 months and I can count on one hand the days that it hasn't rained. And everytime it rains, we get hail. Now I understand why vehicle insurance is so high here.

From a camp trip to Hart's Pass/Slate Peak this week, coming down a trail this guy was unusually high up, we were
at about 7300' here, my truck below!!

Beyond the crow and Slate Peak, highest standing fire tower in Washington!!

 

Entry:

The entrance to an abandoned mine from the ‘30’s that my brother and I found today. The mountain was over our heads for a while when we poked inside.


Safety note - a gas detector and other precautions were taken. Entering abandoned mines can be extremely dangerous without knowing the risks and how to mitigate them.

 

Out of curiosity, what is the elevation of that tower? I'd love to spend a night there.
