Remove the wind diffuser or keep it?

the 2024 wind deflector will be off the chain
my 3rd gen will feel so inadequate

I've never understood how they improve gas mileage.

 

I didn't notice any difference when I removed mine. It just looks better!

 

I took mine off and got the TRD skid plate. No difference in fuel economy or driving characteristics that I could tell. The pic is before I changed to the Pro grille.

 

i like the look and left mine on. i wish it were a bit shorter. some owners install things on these trucks that are more hideous to look at than the chin strap. different strokes for different folks.

i'm satisfied with my average fuel mileage and wouldn't want to affect that by removing it, even if it were only 1 MPG.

i don't find that it causes more of a headache when changing the oil. a few cuss words each time seems to coax it into position.

i do not do any off roading other than gravel roads. if i off roaded, i would take it off.

 

Seeing how it takes about 5 minutes to remove it or put it back on, why not just try it both ways and see for yourself?

 

Stick your hand out the window when you're driving at speed and you'll notice depending on how your hand is shaped or angled it will act more like a sail, wing or feel more neutral.

That chin spoiler helps smooth the airflow under the truck. Obviously it's not a dramatic difference for one truck but enough for Toyota to add it on most of the Tacomas to help boost the EPA MPG numbers for all trucks.

 

It was very noticeable on my sr5. I picked up on it right away. Is it annoying? depends on who your asking, myself I could live with it off, but I don't do any serious off roading anymore so I put mine back on. Toyota engineers put the spoiler there for a reason, or they could of save the company a good deal of money.

Cut it in half and install one side only, that way you can decide which side Ya like better.

They decrease the airflow underneath the truck. The undercarriage creates a great deal of resistance and drag. This drag, decreases fuel mileage.

 

well, you could always get a side gig as a snow plow

 

Anything you can do to to improve air flow or smooth air flow has the potential to improve fuel mileage, but the improvements are going to be greater at higher speeds and virtually nothing at low speeds.

 

I put magnets on mine. When I tailgate people on the highway I get close to 40 MPG. On top of the fuel savings, it picks up coins in parking lots. Between these two financial windfalls I essentially get paid to drive this truck.

 

But does it boost the EPA numbers of trucks with chin spoilers over those without?

Keep in mind tires on each model will also affect MPGs.
