I had a rod something like that since I no longer have AC the damp clothing just gets moldy!

 

Anyone else know they made 309 for fluxcore?

Only problem is no overhead position, and the limitations of mig, but still..

Overhead I'd run 308L rod; I hated overhead MIG on stainless steel especially since heat transfer can be tricky.

 

I’ve run quite a bit of it at an old job. Hated the stuff. It never ran smooth or looked perfect when done

 

I would agree 308 stick for stainless to stainless and for overhead.

I would find 309 more useful to weld stainless to carbon. Ranch life, and all. Hence why I talk more about stick welding…I can’t always control the position I end up needing to be in.

Reading about it on blue demons website, seems you definitely need more amps. It’s not really for the 110 cheap flux core or AC welders. DCEP is recommended to get it to run right. I can see how some people can have issues with it. Reviews seemed solid though.

Anyways, thought that was interesting.

 

309L is the go to for carbon steel to many stainless flavors.

it seems the price of stainless wire has gone up.

I foolishly used some rain barrel water in my plasma table last weekend. Even though I use Pico Quench water treatment, I developed a slimy algae growth when the heat index hit 105-110 this week. I started scooping it off the top and thought, well, it's time anyway.

I usually fish out my drops because a friend's wife uses them in here craft work. This is 7 months worth of casual cutting:


Algae. It had made a thick layer across the top. I hadn't cut anything all week and just noticed it yesterday.

When it starts moving around on it`s own it is time to worry.

The water being outside in the Heat and Sun them mixed with the interesting plasma arc .

Hoping to get my 40 back from a HG and valve job (among other things) and got some time to work on the tire swing out carrier. I’ll add the bumper when I get it back and cut the length. This is half and I created a yeti / fuel rack for the other side.


Not sure if there is a debate or general best practice, but I ran out of my 035 wire and tried 030 for the first time. Pretty sure I’ll stick with 030 now on. I usually fool with 1/8, 3/16 and 1/4 and 030 with the box settings just seemed to work / feel better for me.

 

I've seen people use handheld belt sanders for prepping an axle housing. The couple times I've seen them, the belt has a bit of a bow in it. Where can I get one of these? I'm not a professional so cheap harbor freight like stuff is preferred over an expensive professional one.

 

You answered your own question. Harbor Freight has them.
