Satoshi question

So, I have been on the forum a month or so now...and there is ALOT of talk about this grill or grill mod.

I don't get the hype (or better yet the price) yea it looks cool, yea it individualized your truck...but why are people asking for $200-300 for this thing? The mod doesn't seem that diffifcult to do to your own. And you can buy them for $40-60 from aftermarket body shops...

I am not trying to be a prick, just want to know if I am missing something here...do I need to start a side gig doing these?

 

It's not that difficult to do, but some people are more mechanicaly inclined than others. Good luck finding a decent grille for $40... My color matched OEM grille cost $185 and my old chrome one sold for $75. The mesh inserts for the satoshi costs around $50 +/- depending on what you use and it takes quite a bit of time to make it once you cut the old inserts out, fiberglass, sand, paint and reassemble. People are paying for someone else to perform the work for them.

 

www.certifit.com 40-60 bucks. Aftermarket. And if you are modyfying it that much anyways...might as well go aftermarket.

 

I thought they were just the black plastic ones though, in which case you'd have to paint it. Plus, like I said earlier, you're going to have conservatively 4 hours worth of labor into it, $50 in mesh and say $10 in misc. connectors, parts, tools, etc. That's $100 in hard costs (with the certifit) plus paint and your labor and you'd be selling between $200 and $300. Not a ton of money to be made.

 

It's time consuming and oem grills cost $175 so u do the math
