Well I took the advice of the toyota engineers that build the engine, and followed what they recommended to the letter....truck runs stout. Toyota god is only covering his butt, if one uses dino oils instead, or some other crap oil. I've now seen some of his many, many life is good video's. He should stick to producing video's for others, then some of his recommendations.

I love when people bring up CCN. He is/was a Toyota master tech, but now he's a YouTube Toyota mechanic who wants and needs subscribers and views to generate income.

I don't mind watching these automotive videos as some are entertaining, as long as they are specific. I just think this one guy overdoes it, painting some issues with a broad brush.

Well, seems to be 2 distinct classes here. Some that follow the advice of a hands on, dealing daily with the product, Toyota Master Tech or the recommended maintenance by a engineer. Who directs the engineering team on their decisions? The bean counters?

lots of interesting mods, perceptions, ideas, funny and helpful information gets posted. this is a great site. one of the most interesting comments, and a quite popular one at that, are the number of members that are adamant toyota recommends 10K OCI.

Toyota recommends 5K OCI, and 10K, depending on use. it is not one or the other.

    carry on.........

Same, I did the first change @ 998 and will be doing the second next weekend @ around 5000. I'll be installing a fumoto valve too. I wish I would have put a fumoto on my old S10 220,000 miles ago but I just heard of the damn things since I started hanging around here!

Pick one. It’ll be fine either way. Unless of course you want a euro 15w40 premium oil to sleep better at night

Can you please list anything he has said that is incorrect? Because you seem to be making accusations that he’s a shill now. If you’re going bad mouth someone, bring receipts.

    Youtoob is garbage clickbait infotainment.

Belief is quite an amazing phenomenon. I'm frequently amazed at the odd things people "believe". Youtoob has a whole subsegment of people who "believe" the earth is flat.

My wife's Boxter has a 20k mile oil change interval. It's waaayyyy more expensive than a Tacoma. Those Germans really "believe" I suppose.

    Chicken bones.......
No, but they get really worn out after 220,000 miles. And draining oil down a tube into a jug instead of splashing it into a pan sounds like an improvement.

I think when it comes to these oil changes, one has to use some commonsense whether they're in the severe use 5k category, or normal 10k. It's not that hard.
Maybe we need to take an honest poll on this.

It also depends on your oil choice. Would I take Supertech or Kirkland to 10k? No, even though they’re pretty good oils. Would I take Amsoil or HPL to 10k? Maybe, depending on how severe my driving is.

The question at hand would be … what provides better protection? Kirkland at 5k or Amsoil at 10k

Probably Kirkland at 5k, but I doubt it really matters. The transmission will die before the engine fails. I personally don't drive more than 5k per year so I always change based on time rather than miles.

At least around here it seems like engine failures are far more common than trans issues
