Thinking of clear, probably just sides & mirrors. Anyone done this & does it help? Says it's self healing. Went to a mountain trail Friday & the winter rains have the trail pretty narrow & overgrown with bushes. Truck only has 500 miles so I wimped out.
I've seen some magnetic ones but the videos I watched showed dust & sand getting under it.
    Any experience?

you can put it on....it will protect the paint.

i had my camper painted, and i put clear wrap on some high scratch areas......about 2 years later i decided to re do the clear wrap.....i was taking the old one off, and it started taking paint off with it.

just so you are aware and look into that. maybe i was using the cheap wrap (even though it was 3m)

    EWWFFF!!
Not good story, but good info for OP!
I would at the very least ask for their written guarantees and warranty, take it home, read, and reread.

A member in my local off-road club got a matte wrap on his 2nd gen for wheeling. It protects well against pinstriping but costed him around $1500.

Another member got the Goat Armor magnetic ones. It requires washing the truck before and after each wheeling trip.

I wrapped some parts in Xpel. It works better than no protection. It saves me from very minor damage for a period of time.
In the end, if you get hit by something hard enough, it won't matter what you have.
Rocks are gonna chip, highway debris will scratch.

I plan on doing the headlights soon as well. After driving across the country a few times last year, those were what showed the most road damage. It got so bad that I decided to replace them. I wish I had done them earlier.

The second most chipped part on the truck was the very front edge of the hood where it meets the body.
the chips were deep so I had to have the paint corrected and just decided to wrap it afterwards.

They also have a stealth option which would give you a satin black finish. I opted for this as well to remove hood glare.

Pay to play. How much are you willing to spend. A wrap helps a little. pPF helps more. Magnetic helps but requires work.
Or, just scratch it and be done with it.

They make a magnetic armor that you put on before you wheel. It’s called goat armor.

It's the water crossings (fountains) that really get you in trouble. :annoyed:

OK I'll leave . . . . I want my truck to look like it has done some shit on the trail not like some mall crawler - like I said I'll show my self out.

Get a stripe wrap. Then it looks like you wheel when all you do is MC.

What wrap would protect against this?

You need to wrap your pole yellow, green is a color that means “go” so it confuses people.

    Ok, updating the mall police.
I took the truck to 3 places for a price on PPF. Only one showed me an example of the film. It's very thick. So thick, I have no idea how they get this shit to mold to the car! They all want to do whole truck, not just sides. That's bumpers, grille, headlights, fenders, hood doors, fenders & tailgate. The film has a 10 yr warranty against, shrinking, yellowing, cracking, peeling, bubbling. Guarantee it won't lift paint when removing, providing truck hasn't been repaired or repainted. Pretty much everything but scratching. Takes 2 weeks to install. Price? $8,000.00 F that.
I guess I'll have to stick to malls with no bushes. ;)

The magnetic linked here is about $700 to do the sides of the truck. The constant washing installing & removing the sheets is a no-go.

Anyone tried shelf contact paper lately,I’ve used it in the past to protect new truck paint on a narrow trail and it worked good then but that was twenty years ago.
It’s cheap and comes in many colors.
Take it off at the end of the day and toss it.

dafuq kind of price is that, did they see what you pulled up in? You’d think they’d ask,,, that’s paint protection for a vehicle well in to the six figures right there.

For eight grand, go buy a beater and wheel it, which is what any sane person would do anyway. Who wheels a new truck except not so smart people.
