I have learned (the hard way) about absolutes (not the Vodka!). I try not to use them in descriptions, a few slip in every now and again.

I do have to say, I joined the USAF because my dad was AF, prior enlisted turned officer. He was Aerospace Physiology turned Maintenance Officer. Both great career fields. The main thing he told me when joining was to stay off the flight-line. Mainly because he can't hear most higher frequencies (sometimes I think he can't hear at all!) I always knew I picked the correct branch, but question my career field. I haven't loved it but have adapted.
To the OP; it is great that you have your mind set on an AFSC and are willing to wait. Patience is a virtue! If you love what you do, the time will fly and you will excel. If you do something you hate, you could hate your time and that could reflect in your performance. If you find yourself in a non-preferred AFSC, give it time and try to keep an open mind. Look at the big picture of your contribution and stay away from those that are short sighted in the mission (those that stay locally focused). The locally focused troops are usually moral busters. Look around for a good mentor and follow his/her suggestions! (i hope that wasn't too much of a ramble)
Again, best of luck. I look forward to more updates!

IDK, i didn't know they started doing a point system. back in 2006 when i took the PAST it was strictly pass/fail. you had to pass every single event in order to qualify.

well, underwaters are a huge part of water con training for PJ and CCT... not so much for TACP and not really at all for SERE

your going to be taking the PJ PAST correct? you want to be able to do everything in the PAST like it's a cake walk... the PAST is like 5% of how hard the first day of indoc will be... and it only gets hard everyday after that

good luck when you take the PAST

i hated BMT because it was so damn boring. i got so out of shape, lost a ton of weight, lost all physical prep for indoc. basically yeah, it was a joke. my highschool football practices were harder than BMT. i hope to god the changes they have made to it since i was there make it a challenge. but no matter what, it will be a walk in the park compared to indoc.

to prep for indoc, do not be hitting the weights and yolking up. you need to be running like a mofo for distances up to 10 miles or so at about a 7-8 min pace. eval times in indoc will be around that until the last few weeks, they you need to have about a 7 min pace for 7-8 miles. swim like a fish, hike and walk long distances with a heavy ass pack. body weight excercises flutter kicks, push up, pull up (dead hang to chin well above the bar, no kicking at all).

do lift some weights but do more power and strength moves, and crossfit excercises: bench, power clean, power press, deadlift, squat, dips...

starting a couple weeks ago i started "training" for possible INDOC so i have been doing nothing but body weight stuff like push ups pull ups sit ups and flutter kicks. its been 2 weeks and i can already feel the difference. starting next week i will start my running and i willl push harder in my pull ups and push ups.

Im going for a Warhawk(i think thats what its called) medal at BMT

Best of luck to you. You've made a great decision. I'm retiring this October after 20 years active duty in the USAF. I'm the Education and Training Superintendent (3S2X1) for the USAF's only CYBER wing (@Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX). I've been in the AF training business for 14 years and prior to that I was a Law Enforcement troop (Security Police - 811X2).

To echo a comment made above, it doesn't matter what service you choose... your choice to serve is greatly appreciated! MAY GOD BLESS YOU IN YOUR CAREER!

^ I was afraid of this...

Do I have a higher chance of becoming an officer in the AFR or ANG?
