That may well be what I hear several nights a week. My area is very, very rural. My closest neighbor is 200 yards away. Most everyone has land around us, or at least the houses/trailers are not very close to each other. I hear very loud booms fairly often, and it isn't always thunder storms

 

First Summer after moving here it was a little unnerving, but now it's business as usual

 

Ironically, the digital age that makes music sound better and much, much easier to store is what is killing it. It’s so easy to pirate that the music industry has less incentive to produce a quality product.

There’s an old joke that is mostly truth:
How did Metallica stop their music from being pirated?
They stopped recording anything worth stealing
