You get a lot of tarantulas in your yard? Should keep one as a pet, see how big they get.

Well I don't live there anymore...

7031 E Keats in Mesa... we lived rather close to each other. I also lived in Chandler for a year and those were also stupid close and the HOA was very restrictive. I had to pay to repaint a gate (and prove it with a receipt) because they thought a bird poop was a missing section of paint on it.

I was very happy to find a place with a shop building on good concrete... only one on my street, lotta people still have the little detached garages from 100yrs ago.

I'll definitely give it to you on the HOA nonsense

I'd say standard building practice out here in the east valley is a 10ft setback on both sides, then a cinderblock wall, and a larger backyard

Is WA crazy about dwellings on the property (detached) needing permits and shit if you have electricity and running water or the sorts?

I didn't realize how expensive property taxes were in TX; Stephanie's cousins were over a few weeks ago telling us how they have to save so much per month just to pay them. Like what $16k/year and continues rising?

No crazier than any other state, counties set the stricter rules for that stuff here. Usually shops, garages, barns are easy to get permitted for here. The tough part is getting is certified to have climate control installed, be it AC or Heat. They are strict about insulation and leakage. But water and electricity aren't hard to get permitted for if the structure is safe. Gas is another story... but one that likely won't be around for approval in any dwelling much longer anyway.

Shit that's good. You're right though, pretty sure it's at the county level. I knew of neighbors where my aunt lives that years back were busted for making a garage a living quarters cause people couldn't afford housing.

Then there was the whole dwelling with electricity needing to be a certain size before needing a permit. Not hard to do but you know how people are, trying to do shit below the radar to pay as little as possible. The fines are way more expensive if you get caught though.

That's crazy - I manually kill about 3 per year and pesticide kills many more. We also have black widows and Palo Verde beetles occasionally

The many lizard friends take care of the smaller stuff

Damn. When I'd drive through I'd see them all over the highway running across. Can still hear the crunching....

Just remember, if their claws are really small in comparison to their body, their venom is much more potent.

I tried to find scary desert bugs at night, never saw a tarantula, scorpion, or centipede.... plenty of cicadas and palo verde beetles (cool beetles) though

We also apparently have these massive hairy scorpions I've never seen but I guess are common? Idk I didn't even know they existed until a year ago when a visitor center at a riparian institute had one on display
