Definitely measure from inner Sheetrock/ window sill to outer face. You get that wrong and you aren’t going to be having a good time…

Nice work there Hipsi, can't even imagine how many man hours you have tied up in those.

First time I've ever seen a federal machinist position open up with Nasa, anybody know any metal magicians?

Check out this job at NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration: https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/3665330430

Those fans push more than enough air to reach the toes, the problem isn't getting the air into the boots, it's getting it out. I also have "several" pairs of hunting boots for a multitude of situations:anonymous:.

Well, I know a few people at NASA. I know a retired astronaut (were buddies up to college) I know a physicist and a friend of my son's who is post doc in quantum mechanics. Lot of smart people there. I would say this position would not be for your average Machinist, but one who is comfortable with exotic materials and non standard machining techniques. I would apply if I were you!

So I figured up the labor hours at dinner tonite.
    3 hours cutting blanks.
    19 hours carving.
    13 hours sanding
6 hours for staining including prep
13 hours for wood burning names
    3 hours for urethane
    3 hours wet sanding
    3 hours for urethane
    3 hours wet sanding
    3 hours for urethane
So around 70 actual work hours.
Or, 5.5 hours per bowl or around that.

I am nowhere near qualified for that and can only call myself a machinist by affiliation as I am in the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace workers union (IAM). A federal GS machinist position is one that opens only every so often. Guys retire from stuff like that, and before they do, get their son in law on to replace them.
I am not seriously looking for other work. I keep my ears open but I've got a new contract ratifying next summer and I want to see how things unfold. We should have all the leverage to make a nice push. I need to start recording dates and times as in my few years in this shop I have supported a large number of missions I can talk about and a few that I can't. I am extremely blessed to have ended up where I am.

About $3500.00 labor plus consumables and materials.

If I got a Gift Like that going by what Mom did they would be put away to be used on those very special events that might come every few years.

Very Good Work not something I could every even try.
