You could tap it as with the piece facing down so gravity could help a little.

Is it a thermostat? (i have no idea here) Or is it just a transmission cooler like things say? If the latter, just install a normal trans cooler at the front - probably be better off.

This is a transmission cooler and warmer assembly. The thermostat allows atf fluid to flow to the radiator assembly for cooling. I think thats how it works.

Almost found it, just need to find the right size. Their catalog is not very user friendly.

Unless there is a sensor in the thing telling the ECU something, it seems like deleting it would be just fine. From what I browsed the thing may not let your trans fluid to the cooler until its around 200 degrees. I think thats terrible. Heat kills trans fluid over time.

I guess a lot of guys keep them pinned open so itll flow below 200 degrees by pushing the valve in and inserting a paper clip or pin.

Nice work. Interesting thought too, some transmissions don’t open certain passages until they are at or above temperatures. @gearcruncher might have some insight too.

I had added a Hayden 679 to my 4.0 and it dropped temps by 40-50 degrees. Now, if that keep the fluid a little on the thicker side and I am not "Consequently, reducing my friction losses for better MPG", then thats definitely the lesser of two evils.

Just thinking out loud as i have been thinking of adding a GX to the stable some day....Will probably see if this gizmo is more harm than good just to get better MPG scores. I appreciate this thread for bringing it to attention.

On a build like this , i dont think the op will be concerned about fuel mileage . As others have mentioned , the transmission will work fine if you file the thermostat under " G " , then throw a huge cooler up front .
    Thats what I would do
