Where did you find five bottles at once, and were they MSRP?

Unless I’m mistaken, that’s NINE bottles plus one 375 grenade.

My money is on nine because typically the ones in the boxes are in bags, and only the ones without boxes have those little fishnet skirts on them to avoid bumping bottles.

I went to 2 local stores, one let me have only one and the other I was able to get 4 and then sent my wife to get the others. The baby bottle is already open, just tossed it in the pic. We see them in boxes with the bags and sometimes they come just as a bare bottle. This is the 1st time in NE Ohio we have ever got a shipment like this and my local store selling me this many. I think with tax they were about $70 each.

Damn, at that price it would almost make the drive up there to buy some worth it.

Speaking of Blanton’s, can’t remember if I shared this story on the thread before but if so, oh well.

See a post on CL for Blanton’s, after talking to the guy, his story is as follows. Is a music teacher who drives to the west coast yearly to perform in some big event or festival. There and back he buys every bottle he can find, and then once home he resells to fund the trip. Totally reasonable markup. Averages 50-60 bottles a trip. I meant to ask him what other treats he had encountered along the way…

Good for him, but we also wonder why the bourbon market is so screwed up...

So far I am still missing the 2nd (N). We just got back from a cruise and I was able to score 4 toppers from the whiskey bar on board.

The only problem I'd have with doing that is the time it'd take to detour to all the different liquor stores along his route. It'd double the time it takes to make the trip!

Fair point, but it sounded like he was finding it in places where demand is low and supply was plentiful. Honey holes if you will in the middle of nowhere.

Wasn't that when we considered forming a traveling band that got paid in Blanton's?

    The Blantones?

    Am I remembering that correctly?

The whole liquor market is screwed up. There are more than 7 stores in the closest city to me, and the prices they charge for the same products can vary greatly. It is a free market, but I avoid some stores because they are horrible about jacking prices way over fair prices. There are three that I routinely visit when time and money allow to compare prices. I don't trust any of them to be fair 100% of the time. Prices can vary by 10-20% on the same bottle.

As long as there’s competition, a fair price is wherever the market settles.

Some store owners have realized that by providing desirable stuff at a reasonable price, they get traffic, loyalty, and more overall volume.

But there are people out there willing to pay the inflated prices for the rare stuff, and as long as that’s the case, those places will inflate the prices. Such is a free market.

The case comes with 6 bottles and half are in the fancy boxes, the other half the sluts in the fishnets lol, and usually they're staggered so the bottles aren't against each other. More of the champagne companies do it than whiskey or bourbon so i guess it's a thing taken from them, idk. No idea why it's done tho

    The internet has multiple theories:
-Distillery leaves some unboxed to make it easier to see the letters
-Distillery leaves some unboxed because restaurants don’t care about boxes or bags
-Distillery sometimes boxes all, sometimes the 50/50, depends

I'm a price checker on virtually everything I buy, and whiskey is no exception. When the differences are small, I buy where I get the best deal. But when checking out a store, and I see they are asking double or more than other stores for something, I just won't go to that store anymore. I know some places are willing to wheel and deal if I call them on their exorbitant prices, but I just avoid dealing with them. If they can keep enough business to keep the doors open, I pity the suckers they have for customers; I do my best not to be one of them.

Optimized packaging cost vs breakage loss in transit. I guarantee it.
