When I went to test drive my current '22 6MT the sales guy handed me the keys after getting my license copied. Got in the drivers seat and he also got buckled in. Was starting to tell me about the shifter/clutch and I just put it in reverse and backed out of the spot perfectly. Guy just went "oh, well, nevermind"

Guess they get young guys in to test drive manuals and totally suck at it.

Reverse still sucks in these trucks, beginners luck on that test drive

lol - TBF I do hate that Reverse is up and left by 1st, I've certainly gotten too aggressive from a stop and accidentally R before

I was a well seasoned pro  with 3.5 years of manual daily driver experience when I test drove my Tacoma, so I had no issues with it.

But when I test drove my Mini Cooper in 2017, it had been 10 years since getting some MT lessons in my mom's old Volvo.
I guess I said I knew what I was doing because salesman basically tossed me the keys and said 'go nuts.'
I made it about 10 ft and then couldn't even get out of the parking lot, I just stalled every time.
I went back inside and asked for some advice and he just said "don't be afraid to give it some gas."
So for the rest of my test drive I floored it and peeled out obnoxiously at every stop sign or light.

I hadn't owned a stick vehicle for probably year before I test drove my truck. It's like riding a bike though, never forget, just get a little rusty.

Still can't get a great 4-5 and 5-6 shift though. I got 3rd gear figured out. I feel like I'm driving an old grain truck with a 5-2 transmission

Honestly I just drive it as a 5spd most of the time. 4-6 is a pretty easy shift to hit smoothly.

I can never do the 4-5 shift quick enough consistently. 5th is pretty much my stroad gear at this point. It only gets used when I’m stuck doing 45-50.

Yea I'll typically skip shift from 4th to 6th. But, some of the back roads I drive ya gotta use 5th.
