Yes my truck currently measured about 2 inches higher in the back I believe the front has sagged over the 100 thousand miles on stock suspension. The appeal of having 2.5 in the front instead of 2 is nice to level it out a bit more. Again with 1.5 added in back. I don’t mind a little rake however. Any thoughts on Eibach pro coils on 5100s

OP, note that you can buy assembled coil-overs and install them without the need for a spring compressor. Additionally, I think there are videos on YouTube describing a technique to change out shocks using the weight of the truck instead of a spring compressor.

In my mind, buying both a 5100 and a longer spring with the sole goal of lifting your truck is completely redundant. You can save money by using one or the other.

If I had a mall crawler, I would opt for a longer coil spring (600 lb/in) with a lighter spring rate and keep my stock shocks. That or a (small) top hat spacer. But I don’t have a mall crawler.

I get what you are saying but you cannot actually put a longer spring in stock struts in a Tacoma. Also I use mine for off-roading so I want something durable and practical. I may just simply do preload on stock springs still but any thoughts on Eibach pro coils?

Why not just use the stock springs? The 5100s are literally designed for that

Yep they are designed for that main reason for me would be more lift and it seems to give better ride quality then a completely preloaded stock spring

Why do you think you cannot use a longer spring with the stock shock? The “OEM replacement” shocks have very similar collapsed and extended lengths. I have heard there are some differences in the spring endings of the various shocks on the market, but I have not heard that no springs exist on the market that work with the stock shocks. I have heard that the 5100s work with both OME coils and stock coils and that implies that OME coils work with stock shocks.

Preload does not decrease ride quality. The main reasons to get aftermarket coil springs are:

    - to change length to gain lift
    - reduce spring rate in increase ride quality
    - gain diameter to fit around larger diameter shocks

Note that the ride quality will likely come at the expense of the ability of the truck to do truck stuff, e.g. carry a payload, tow, etc. Albeit you can offset some of that by installing shocks with more damping.

It doesn't though. They are designed to be used at the different notches without affecting ride quality. That is the point of them. You're not going to get any more lift than the lift they are designed to give

If you have a longer spring that gives lift without any need for preload such as an Eibach pro that gives around 2 inches and then you preload that you can gain extra height.

No. The whole point of the lifting coil is that you don't use the notches. It's either notches and stock spring or no notches and aftermarket. Not both.

This is from Bilstein directly. Actually, they don't suggest aftermarket coils at all. Voids warranty.

I used the stock coils on my 5100s up front (as per Bilsteins recommendation), and it improved the ride over the stock Bilsteins. No more brake dive. Used a block in the rear to get a 1" lift, for a perfect level all around. I've had a steel bumper on the rear for over 2 years now, without sag.

    Absolutely love the ride.

There is a limit to how high you can lift an independent double wish bone suspension and I’m assuming a Bilstein 5100 can reach that limit with stock coil springs. On a 3rd gen taco it’s about 3”. You don’t want to get near the limit, because it leaves you with no down travel and that can lead to poor ride quality. Imagine your truck free falling into every dip because the suspension cannot extend to meet the ground.

Sounds awesome thank you. I am going to just use stock coils. I just need to find another shop that will do it. I really don’t have any of the tools to do it myself.

Ya, I've got a garage that I trust, so they charged me about $200 install the 5100s with an alignment. They charged me $70 to put the blocks in the rear. I probably could have attempted the rear blocks, but for $70 it was an easy choice for me.
