2016 RCLB SR; I was totally unaware that a regular cab was offered in this generation and initially thought it was a very heavily modified 2nd Gen with 2.5th Gen body panels! I thought it was a Double Cab with an 8-foot bed, and was going to take pictures of it anyway, but then I realized it was a regular cab; I LOVE THIS TRUCK!

Cool trucks. Sat in a few on dealer lots. Back when these things didn’t cost an arm and a leg… sigh

 

A few years back, pictures of a previously totaled 2nd Gen RC Tacoma that had been converted into a 3rd Gen by somehow making 3rd Gen body panels fit were circulating here on TW. That truck had a rebuilt title as a result of the prior wreck, but the seller still wanted a fortune; I initially believed that this truck might have been a previously totaled salvage title wreck that had been cut up and turned into a 3rd Gen RC, until I ran the Carfax and found out that it only a clean title, but also had no accident history whatsoever...

This is more than I can say about my beloved Tacoma...

My truck has a clean title, but it has been involved in several minor to moderate accidents that weren't my fault (and a couple minor ones that were my fault), but my truck has never had any airbag deployment or been disabled as a result of an accident. Unfortunately, my truck's Carfax report has a few accidents on it. Again, it does NOT have a rebuilt/salvage title; I have a clear Pennsylvania title in my name stashed in a fireproof safe. Unfortunately, even though my truck is still worth about ten grand thanks to the high demand for used vehicles, it would probably be worth hell of a lot more if it had a flawless record...

Anyway, one of the first clues as to whether or not this was a true 2.5th Gen or just a rebodied 2nd Gen would have been the interior; I immediately looked at the interior and was shocked to see that it had a 2014+ interior!

 

That's a nice one.

 

Even more shocking was that it had crank windows; I have NEVER seen a 2.5th Gen with crank windows! At this point, I hadn't run the license plate through Carfax, and I still believed that somebody had built this from a Double Cab or a CrewMax...

 

I quickly figured out, even before running the license plate through Carfax, that this was a legit regular cab and not a custom build...

 

Before I ran the license plate through Carfax and confirmed that it was real regular cab, I looked closely at the rear frame rails for any signs of cutting and welding; I found none, and the frame was also surprisingly clean for a Jersey truck of this age...

 

I had the intention of giving this truck its own thread on Tundras.com to see if it was a one-off, but after I texted @ColoradoTJ some pictures, he confirmed that this was a real regular cab 2.5th Gen! I took these pictures with my phone...

 

In addition to having a clean title and no reported accidents, this truck is mint and had less than 78K miles as of January 2022; I believe it probably has like 90K miles now. The interior is absolutely mint as well!
