I like the vertical mounts, but not all the square holes, as they tend to focus stress, even with rounded corners.

How did you color-match your ARB bumper? Did you special-order it from ARB that way?
Or did you sand/bead-blast the entire thing down to bare metal & repaint it yourself?

Need to add BAMF (Bay Area Metal Fabrication) bumpers to the poll. All of BAMF's stuff is top-tier.

    https://www.bayareametalfab.com/Toyota_c_38.html

Separately: are there any TW threads focusing on damage prevention or mitigation from heavy-duty bolt on or weld-on sliders? I imagine those might to quite a ways towards mitigating side impact damage as they transfer load directly & broadly across a large area of frame.

I received it powder coated black. Roughed it with scotchbrite(?) type pads, and 3m prep wipes, spray balled it with dupli-color, about six cans IIRC, then about the same amount of clear coat. Did it outside under a canopy. Came out way better than expected. I did take my time which probably helped a lot, as I used an engine hoist and straps to save my toes.

I may have to do the same with mine. The black powerdercoat has faded terribly. I was able to polish it some. I only did one section to see how it did compared to the rest and I think a good polish all over may be warranted. If that doesn't work, I may pull it off and repaint it. I'll probably stick with black though.

    Interesting, very interesting.

When I got my ARB brand-new, in black powdercoat of course, first thing I did was alcohol-wipe a hidden section underneath, let the alco evap away completely, & then test-paint it with some yellow Rustoleum "plastic-compatible" rattle can paint.. Or maybe it was Krylon Fusion. Definitely not DupliColor.

Coated fine, dried fine, but chipped off easily with a fingernail 24 hours later.

How long have you had your DIY paint job on there and how is it holding up? Also what kind of 3M prep wipes, exactly? Are they based on a common solvent like acetone that I could just do straight out of a bulk can & rag, or a hand pump spray bottle?

    Your paint job looks excellent.

Thanks, I think that the weather during the process helped a lot; dry and warm for this part of the country.
I found the prep wipes on Amazon, and it appears that they are Dupli-Color wipes, and not 3M.

I painted and installed back in 2014, and, aside from bumping a few trees and boulders while crawling in central PA, the paint is holding up better than factory, as I will be getting the hood repainted soon. I think that I used more clear coat than factory.
I painted it, and let it sit for days, under the canopy in the summer sun, as I wanted the clear coat very hard before using the hoist.

Apogee Offroad bumper. I has cruise set for the speed limit at 45. Cops think the drunk that hit me was doing 90.

All things considered that looks like a very good result. Without that bumper the rear half of your truck probably would've accordioned up halfway to the back of your cab. Hope you're OK & didn't suffer any major injury such as whiplash.

Also looked like your $5K-$8K (?) super-nice camper shell was absolutely untouched.

How were the frame rails after that? Any bending or distortion?

We definitely have injuries. Aches and pains are still popping up, and I never realized before how bad concussion can be.

The camper survived, amazingly well! Everything is square and working exactly the way it should be.

The frame was all twisted up to the point. It wasn’t even repairable. The damage is way worse than the picture shows. It’s hard to tell, but the hitch ball is pointing straight down to the ground. The truck was totaled.

I completely agree with you. I feel like that bumper saved us from significantly worse problems

Here's my truck on Christmas Eve 2021 less than a week after I put my Victory 4x4 Blitz bumper. Lady in the HOV lane hit a puddle and lost control and swerved over and hit my front end in the far right lane. I definitely kicked myself for not getting a full bumper, but I got the truck back and everything is fine now.

Sorry to hear that, both on the injuries & the frame. If you have any photos of the frame damage, please consider posting/sharing. I'd be interested to see what happened/how it was damaged.
