Exhaust noise --- Internal ???

Hey,

Been awhile since i was here but looking for help if possible!

2016 TRD Sport - 154,000kms - has what sounds like an internal exhaust noise in the drivers side catalytic. buzzy tinny noise at 2100 and 3300 rpms only. Visual inspection all clear.

Called dealer emissions warranty over = any advice TIA Garry

Maybe a vibration of a baffle in the cat.

 

Check out the heat shield and associated bolts on the cats. Mine got its mounting holes rusted out, and made a nasty buzz/rattle until it fell off before I could get under there with tools to fix it.

I've had a rock jammed up in a heatshield for some time. Got the majority of it out, but still a small piece in there that buzzes...super annoying but my bolts are all rusted to hell so I'm not even able to remove it lol.

 

The heat shield around the cat is loose. I just fixed mine with some baling wire. Wrapper it super tight so it can't rattle anymore

 

Another thing to try is put your ear next to a long PVC pipe and have someone rev the engine. You might able to isolate the source of the noise if it is not the heat shield.
