at the beginning, I am the proud 2nd owner of a 2004/1st Gen. Tacoma "Pre-Runner", v-6
12 mos. ago i purchased 4 - 245/75R/17 from a seller on Craig's list. wheels and tires and was happy to have them, I had them installed ASAP, I sold the old tires and wheels (245/75R/16) to a auto dealer.

in the mean time I took the Yoda to my favorite mechanic for front end and break inspection all way round, for my intention is to install the larger Tundra breaking rotors/pads/disc.s etc. which I did about a month ago, bought a pkg.ed kit from Nolan @ LC Engineering (Great Product/Good People)

Eventually, I want to pull a camper trailer across the U.S. and thought it to be wise to increase the safety factor.

Now the rest of the story,, <A.> March 2023, Left Rear wheel and tire left the Yoda, doing 55mph on a little curve on HWY 11 OKLAHOMA, " I don't mind telling you it as a harrowing experience. When we got the unit out the ditch and into the mechanic shop, it needed a new Lft Brake Drum, Brake shoes both sides, brake fluid, adjustment to the emergency brake cable, and a gallon of AIR FRESHNER/for the cab for there was a fowl odor.

I am having a similar problem but different: which is when i make a hard stop, i feel like I'm stopping on a wash board, dududududu at the brake pedal and a slight vibration on the steering wheel, WTF? the only thing that has not been changed are these OKLA roads and new tires on the 17" rims.

Whatdya think i should do now?

Move out of OK. No, seriously, if that brake drum is out of round or your axle is bent then you will be get a pulse.

A vibration in the steering wheel points to the issue being in the front suspesion somewhere. A brake pedal pulse and vibration during braking is likely a warped front brake disc/rotor.

Sounds to me like a hard brake application with ABS brakes to me it feels like a brake pulse.

I had a similar problem and turned out to be one of my front end speed sensors. Mine shuddered only when I came to a stop. What I did was jack up the front end on both sides, removed both speed sensor cables. Then take a straight slot screwdriver with a towel wrapped around the tip and spray some brake clean on the towel. Poke the screwdriver into the hole of the speed sensor to clean up any dirt/debris on each of the teeth on the speed sensor wheel, rotating the hub as you go.

Back up a bit- did you say your wheel fell off going 55 and you crashed into a ditch- and now you are wondering about a braking vibration? I do stupid shit to my truck but I would like to hear about the lose of a wheel. From your description it sounds like you are having an issue with your tundra brake upgrade.

Appox. 12/14 weeks ago the L rear tire w/wheel decided they had had enough! and escaped (due to lug nuts had not been torqued properly for the trip) the wheel and tire left @ about 55mph to go visit some cows 1/3 of a mile away. Well you cannot imagine my surprise! <55mph, brake drum digging into the Black Top of this preciouses 2 lane road> as I as meeting on coming traffic, Sparks flying from the exposed cast iron brake drum, rubbing the aggregate in the Black Top.

It must have been quite the sight, as autos approached from the opposite direction, for moms and children all looking thru their glass, jaws dropping, fingers pointing, for what they were witnessing was history in the making as a man who had the look of a deer in the head lites, fighting for a safety feature and a safe place to pull off, that would have a reasonably safe outcome, with minimal damage, Thank you Jesus I did not turn over or roll down the ditch

Long story/short: replaced ONE rear brake drums,,,,,,,,,,,replaced 4 brake shoes,,,,,,,,,,,replaced ONE rear brake cylinders,,,,,,,,,,,replaced SIX lug bolts and lug nuts on the drivers side,,,,,,,,examined and adjust Emergency Brake........
Put the truck back into operation and put 1000miles on it..during this 1000mi test I noticed a vibration when giving the truck a HARD STOP situation <25/30 mph with in 50/75 ft>

At this point 1200/1400 mile later, i installed the Tundra Brake upgrade .<NO PROBLEMS>

BUT IM STILL FEELING A SLIGHT VIBRATION WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE.

COULD IT BE A SHOCK/SHOCKS? OR COULD IT BE? "IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT???"

Something is bent. If bent there will be runout that can be measured.

RUNNOUT? WHERE TO BEGIN?, if something were bent/warped/out of alignment!? shouldn't there be a vibration while traveling 65/70 mph hi way speed going forward??? JUST TRYING TO UNDERSTAND WHERE TO START LOOKIN/MEASURING ECT, etc., etc. Thx for your help "if it isn't broke don't fix it, right!?

oh well I'll be putting on new oem shocks soon as i can find a reasonable price, LOL I think $170.00 pr. one front shock is just a little pricy. Don't you???

^ That ^ is yelling. All caps, with plenty of unnecessary symbols thrown in.

People tend to be more helpful when they can understand what you are asking. Correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation, while no longer considered necessary on forums, tends to help.

After all that, I believe the problem is gone away, at least till the next time, hahaha. just FYI I replaced the Struts and all hardware that held them together in position! and voilà Vibration when stopping has disappeared.

If you should find yourself in need of shock or strut questions, you might ask some of these guys at ShockSurplus, very knowledgeable and easy to deal with. Thank you Tacoma World, for all your commentary!.
