Help! 2018 TRD Pro won't start

I'm having a "Smart Entry and Start System" error along with a "Check Charging System" error on my 2018 TRD Pro and it won't start. I have searched the threads here but haven't had any luck so I figured I'd start my own. I disconnected the battery overnight and replaced the key fob battery and it still won't start. I can start using the remote start with the key fob so I know the key fob works and the battery is fine. This is the second time its happened in about 3 months. It somehow started last time after multiple battery disconnects but now it won't start at all. Any ideas?

 

Bad switch or loose wire behind the brake pedal?
Park sensor?

 

I haven't checked those but worth a try.

 

Have you tried hold fob next push to start button? So, it recognizes fob. I had to do this once when had this same problem.

 

Yeah, tried that several times with no luck.

 

What about spare/second fob?

 

"check charging system" is probably just related to the truck not running as you'll see that warning when you put it into the run mode without turning on the engine.

Have you tried your spare fob?

 

I know it still starts remotely, but did you get the battery load tested? How old is it?

 

Yes, I have tried both fobs.

 

No, I haven't had it load tested. It is a 2 year old X2 Group 31M AGM. I will add that to my list of things to try.

 

Stock alternator can not support charging an AGM battery fully. So that might be your problem

 

Thanks, yeah, I have a RedArc BCDC 40 with 200w solar and a tune increasing alternator output to 14.3v.

 

did you try the brake pedal bypass 2 days ago?

 

AGM's charge just fine, I ran one for years with no edits and so did everyone else until 2020/2021 when vF Tuner added the capability to edit voltage/charging values.

I think this is a good start. We know the truck can start, and does so remotely. Now it's time to see if it's the brake switch or start button, and this test should show if one of those is the culprit.

 

Not yet, I got sent out for work and don’t fly back until Monday. I will definitely report back what I find.
