Hey everyone,
I'm finally in a good spot to produce a steady flow of these kits - so up goes the official buy/sell ad. Better late than never! Haha. I'll improve the ad with time, but for now it's just to get it out there in the open and start helping more members out. I'm a one man operation.


So here's a quick background rundown without delving too much into it:
It's no secret by now that the factory release (throw-out) bearing setup in 2nd Gen Tacoma & FJ Cruiser (6MT) trucks has its share of issues. Toyota threw TSB parts at it. URD makes a stainless sleeve kit with mixed results and formerly made a hydraulic release bearing setup that wasn't on the market all that long. Clutch Masters tried their hand at a hydraulic release bearing setup in recent years and ultimately was a failure and screwed over a group buy worth of people on here.

In comes @BillDaCat8 who spearheaded this whole Tilton idea. He put his resourceful side and knowledge of part sourcing to work, making the universal Tilton 6000 series hydraulic unit fit in his Tacoma. Here's his original thread where you can follow along with his brainstorming and get a better idea of how this project came to be/what this project entails: HERE

Building on what Bill started, I now make adaptor kits so that other forum members can do the same. My kit supplements all the necessary pieces to adapt the universal Tilton parts, making them specific to the 2nd & 3rd gen Tacoma's equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission. Yes, 3rd Gens as well. While the related issues are specific to 2nd Gen Tacomas & FJ Cruisers (RA60F/RA61F), some users prefer the pedal feel of a hydraulic setup for their 3rd Gen Tacoma's (RC62F).


What's in the kit? What other parts will I need to order? What does each piece do? What's the installation like? Price? Shipping? How do I place an order? Etc.

I finally ripped out my Clutch Masters hydro bearing, threw it away and went back to a slave back in February. I’m definitely going to get your kit and the Tilton bearing on the shelf and ready to go before the next cluch. The TOB is already making some racket. I did like the feel of the CM bearing. It’s a lot of work just to change a $5 o ring every 5 months.

A painful amount of work for a seal that would normally have a much longer service life!

Any chance you could take a survey for this setup for the 2nd Gen. R-155/R-155F & 3rd Gen R-156/R-156F manual 5 speeds that come behind the 2.7L/2TR-FE?
Just my *opinion/though* is there are probably more 5 speed manuals than 6 speed manuals. If you could get a wholesale dealership for the rest of the parts to sell a complete kit you could possibly sell them for less than your customers buying piece by piece. Just a thought you might even be able to get the rest of the parts drop shipped so you’re not having to stock parts.

Are you asking if it will fit the 5-speed?

I’d hope Toyota kept their 5spd design reliable as it used to be, eliminating the need for this

unlike the 6spd which they ruined for good in 2005

 

If someone had said transmissions near me I would definitely see what I could do with it. I've never seen inside the bell housing of one. If it were similar to the 6-speed then adapting a 5-speed kit might not be that difficult.

As for the "business model," there simply isn't enough interest for me to start purchasing and stocking complete "every single part you will need to make this entire project work" kits. It would be a costly undertaking. As it stands, this project is more for the DIY-proficient forum user that enjoys modding and ordering their own parts.

I plan on swapping a 3rd gen 6-speed trans into my 2nd gen. I’d imagine I need the 3rd gen kit?
There is a guy on TW who already did this swap 2-3 years ago and he was running the Tilton setup back then. Of course I don’t remember his SN.

 

Yep you would want the 3rd gen kit then. You're probably thinking of @BillDaCat8 . He's the the original pioneer of this project.
