Been enjoying the KDmax tune past week. The bad news is 14.5 MPG 87 octane 50/50 mix highway/city. Been driving spirited so next is drive it more tame and see where MPG goes. So awesome tune but MPG way down. Not sure how others doing, it’s my experience first tank of gas.

Gonna be expected. As you mentioned, you are enjoying the mod. Once you drive normal, it will be right back where you were. I experienced same with OTT tune.

Why run 87 or “tune” it to low octane?

Is that tune not octane learning like some of the others?

if your tuner reset all the learned values, it will take the hardware/software a bit to "learn" your habits. once the learning settles, your mileage will be back to normal or better (unless you drive "spirited, or tow regularly). I run premium non E rec fuel in mine and get great mileage driving with my foot, cruise... is about the same as stock. this is my dash readings after v10. it is a great tune, smooth, seamless, power when and where you need it.

If you are on the fence, hit up @PapaRee, or @TWTaco of KDMAX tuning group to answer questions, and get you in contact with one of their in network tuners. Ski

Interesting that you say "normal or better" because there has been talk that you probably lose 1-2 MPG and that's what keeps me on the fence.

you can get good mpg you just have to drive like your mpg matters. Its easier to lose the mpg with the tune vs stock because the trucks reaction to the pedal is more responsive.

I tuned (KDMAX) a friend of mine who drives like a grandpa. Stock Taco. He was getting 21-22 mpg. After the tune he dropped to 15 mpg and called me freaking out. Told him upfront that it takes a few tanks and to drive more aggressively during those two tanks. It came back and now he is in the 22-23 range. Have also tuned heavy trucks that went from 12 mpg to 16+ mpg.

MPG is a crazy thing to watch. I did initially like a hawk. Noticed drops depending on time at traffic lights, drive thrus, random idling in the driveway, etc. there is a reason manufacturers have the engine shutoff at stops. That kills your mileage. Drive on a state highway for a long time at 60-65 mph and even with rolling hills on a stock truck you will get 22+ mpg. Altitude will also kill mpg so those in the mountain states will get worse than the sea level people. It’s all about physics and how aggressively you drive.

Michigan has a lot of 2 lane roads with 65mph posted speed limits. Now safe??? That could be another matter.

I gained 1mpg over three tanks upgrading from the previous version. I do use the lightest throttle setting. I noticed for me the throttle settings made a huge difference in mileage. 4.88 and 33s with about 200lbs extra weight

Stock tires, no lift. I’m enjoying the time so I been somewhat Agro on the throttle in city. Highway speed limit 65 so been staying with it. So only changes in driving habits is revs to get up to speed. Tune totally worth the smile on my face when driving. It’s only been one tank, it’s a truck not a sports car so I’m sticking with 87. I forgo the mpg display and use fill gallons pumped in and divide the millage driven since prior fill up against what’s pumped in. FWIW prior to tune 20 mpg was common with a 50/50 split HWY/City
No doubt I would tune all over if I knew the mpg in advance, totally happy overall. One can hope next tank i improve closer to 20 mpg

Like others have said give it two to three tanks to get good and settled in and you should know by then what to expect.

I’ll post the link to the KDMAX tune thread if you like to talk with other KDMAX customers, tuners or prospective customers
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...aree-and-twtaco.713699/page-427#post-28951456

The moderators don’t like tunes being discussed in the main thread. So to keep us from being shut down might be good to address questions there.

I also have posted a lot on my personal mileage and what works for me.
