Driving 70 mph and my Tacoma goes into limp mode, turned it off for a few minutes, started up with no check engine light and running normal. Has 8700 miles on it. Drove home with no issue, anyone have this happen?

Check your gas cap and make sure it's tightly shut til it clicks.

Had a buddy scan it, no codes. I'll take it to the Dealer Monday.

I've driven it about 120 miles with no problem, I'll take it to the dealer next week just to check it out.

“Driving 70 mph and my Tacoma goes into limp mode.”

Can you elaborate please, will it not accelerate past 70 mph, does it drop from 70 mph to 45 mph, what are the symptoms?

Driving 70mph going to the track truck starts slowing down, check engine light on, display said check ecu. Slowed to about 30mph, struggling to do that, stopped, turned it off for a few minutes, started normal with no check engine light, driven a few 100 miles no issue, dealer said no codes and it's good.

Obviously something went wrong, engine doesn’t go in limp mode when things are good.

Most dealerships suck nowadays, they don’t give a shit about a customer. It’s sad.

At this point a dealership probably won’t find any issues since it self remedied. Can certainly try another dealership though.

Personally I would just keep driving it. Take it out in the rain, summer, winter, if you have no issues by end of the bumper to bumper warranty, consider it a fluke.

Fluke’s don’t really happen from a technical aspect, but with all the software in these trucks, I guess it’s possible.

Which software are you speaking of sir?

3rd Gen Tacomas are ancient when it comes to modern technology.

    Is your comment sarcasm?

If not, I know the Tacoma is antiquated, but still a lot of software and sensors and such.

If there was no software, how would an ECU tune be possible?

    No I’m serious sir.

It’s basic sensors and a few ECUs that go back to early 2000s.

I won’t pretend to be a mechanical guru.

In my opinion there is software running through these 3rd gens. ECU, sending data to Toyota for remote start, data collection, etc.

From a software aspect, that makes it “vulnerable” in a sense.

If that opinion makes zero sense, then I will happily call myself a moron and edit my comment.

Exactly. Even if the tech is minimal, when you introduce any type of software, you’re bringing in the potential for human error in terms of coding.

It only takes a single erroneous line element of code to cause OP’s issues. Not saying it is a fluke, because it is highly unlikely, but definitely possible.

And the dealer will NEVER find such a software bug lol

Luckily my truck doesn’t send “data” or email me.:)

Is it like a post 2020 MY thing?

Does your truck have remote start via the app capability?

I don’t use the app or any of that junk. I use my key lol

And to further refute your point, newer ones have TSS. That’s a bunch of software! :duel:
