google/YouTube, there are a million step by steps and videos on building ARs. It’s not rocket science so everyone and their sister has put out a set of instruction.

first hit on google, I’ve used this one several times:

I use this, it can be reused many many times, allows those tiny screws a place to land without bouncing off the benchtop. Also good for other shop jobs too.

I’ve been piecing this one together for a while. I never really cared for AR’s and didn’t get the fascination/obsession people have for them, but after the last election I decided I should get a lower just in case the bug bit me one day. Big bore AR’s came up on a podcast I listen to and the 458 Socom just seemed so cool. A semi auto 45-70? Why not…

I decided to build instead of buy because what’s the fun in buying, and I thought I could save some money overall, or build a better rifle for the same money at least.

    I started with:
    Anderson complete lower with grip
    Aero Precision big bore upper
    Aero a2 buffer
Tromix 16” lightweight barrel, bolt, and flash hider
    Anderson BCG
Generic a2 stock and free float hand guard.

First range trip setup with an aero scope mount and bushnell 1-6 trophy QA
    IMG_1252.jpg

The gun ran great, though I didn’t shoot a lot at $2.75 per. No FTF or FTE’s, can’t comment on accuracy yet. Recoil is not bad, about like 2-3/4” 12ga target loads, when shooting 350gr FMJ underwood.

The furniture sucks and the scope isn’t my favorite as the eye box is very tight. I hate the look of it and the feel of it. Tonight I took the scope off and changed out the grip and stock for a Hogue a2 rifle stock and beaver tail grip in OD green. Holy hell it’s amazing what a quick furniture change can do to the look and feel of a gun!

    IMG_1299.jpg IMG_1300.jpg

I’ve got a Aero quantum hand guard coming next week, not sure when I’ll get to changing it.

As it sits right now it weighs about 7 pounds and $900 spent, including the new stock grip and guard. Not sure what direction I’m going to with the optics…

I had a BCM BCG with less than 1k rounds break the other day. Both of the gas key screws sheared off. BCM is having me send it in for inspection and sending me a reimbursement check. With new state laws they can't send it back or send me a replacement. I'll buy a new one when I move out of this state.

edit: I threw in a Toolcraft Nickel Boron BCG and it ran great for the rest of the day. I suspect there may have been a bad batch of gas key screws on the BCM. Never seen this before.

sure, when I get out of this state. Can't get spare AR parts in this state now. Not sure what parts I can't get. I just received both upper and lower spare parts kits from Midway. I think I can get barrels? Uppers, lowers, mags, BCG's are a no. I wonder if triggers are ok. I'll figure it out.

Spare? Or you have an upper already? I’m tempted to order one of the Kodiak brown lowers

It’s gonna be a spare. I only bought parts when there was a sale going on. So no rush to finish it, as I want to do it as inexpensively as possible.

Sent the Vortex UH-1 in for warranty so I decided to pull the magnifier and put an LPVO on the 13.9.
    IMG_8930.jpg

And then decided to swap out the rail on my 11.5 rifle since I’ve had this new rail for almost a year.
    IMG_8933.jpg
    IMG_9015.jpg
    IMG_9016.jpg

And then dug out this 10.5” upper, needs a carry handle, drilled to pin the A2 FSB, and submit a form so I can get an A1 stock for the lower I want to use on it.
