Stuff that costs more than my wife thinks.
If you're gonna go with the latter, then I suggest both. :oldglory:

Cashiers check in a bank is about as safe as it gets.

If he is acting weird there is a reason, and for that amount of money I wouldnt want to find out the hard way what it is.

Ugh, 3 days this week around 3pm the AC has crapped out on us, perfect timing, peak heat.

First time of living somewhere where AC is needed... are AC units supposed to handle this 110+ heat or is it common for units to crap out on ya randomly? House and AC is 6 years old.

No common. What is your temp setting? This is your house hvac correct? You check your electrical connections at the capacitor?

This week has been a learning experience...

We keep the house at 78'. Filters are clean and new. Yesterday when it quit I thought maybe the evaporator coils froze so turned the system off for 4 hours with just the circulator fan running and put a bucket under the condenser drain outside, went to a friends house that was out of town and sods law a local electrical transformer popped at 5pm so their ac wasn't working either . Return home and zero water in the bucket 4 hrs later and house is 87'. turn the ac on and it runs all night perfectly with 1.5 liters of water in the bucket by morning. System runs all day perfectly until 3ish when it stops. Thermostat says "cool" & "following schedule" (78') and the fan is running but no cool air. I shut the system off and turn to google... decide I should try to wash the condenser coils, do so and turn the system on 1hr later. Currently cooling, was 83' now 81.5 :bananadance:

I feel like something is getting too hot and going into limp mode, it'd be nice if the thin layer of dust outside was to blame but I'm not hopeful. Time will tell.

Thanks bud, currently cooling so fingers crossed.

Yey, repaired the hole in my inflatable kayak from where the wife dragged it along the concrete when it was in storage, I saw her do it and screamed, nooooo.

this time when we go up to the lake I won’t have that sinking feeling :)

No obvious ice that I could see. But certainly our 90 degree tap water would have melted it with the wash I just did.

Had a similar issue with my old AC unit a couple years ago (compressor/evaporator freezing over, sometimes thermal shutdown)...had it charged up to get us by until the new system could be installed, and it worked the best it ever did. 1996 unit and it was 3# low...

The owners who are also friends had the evaporator coil replaced last year when it was 5 years old because it was freezing up apparently. I'm questioning if it needed replacing and maybe they just got fleeced. They moved from WA and have no experience with AC systems they also heavily rely on contractors for everything. I on the other hand am too tight to let others fix something I have half a chance of doing my self.

If the system craps out again tomorrow I'll see about getting an expert in to check/top up the freon.

And of course this happens just before the 4-7 peak utility charge!!

Edit: the guy that did the ac evap coil is also doing his pool heater and I wouldn't hire him based on the quality of work he's doing on that.

@TailHook Do you know of any great roads/locations that work well for shooting (photos) these fighter jets as they come in to land and if there's any prime times? Cheers

There’s a lot of reasons why a unit could be tripping off. Not always a low charge. If there’s a blockage in the expansion valve or filter dryer can cause issues with pressure and temps.
Also the evaporator is what will freeze over if filters dirty. If your condenser ever freezes. Then you have bigger issues. Like a reverse valve for a heat pump.

Just be mindful because I imagine if you hangout in one spot for too long taking pics, you’ll have the military police up your ass. I don’t know if they could do anything to a civilian off base, but you never know.

Assuming you mean Luke, I get a nice close up of their landings when I’m sitting at a red light at litchfield and northern. You could probably park here at this pin for a bit and get them nice and low.

Thanks! Oh right, yeah that is close, might be too close. Ideally I'd want them as they are banking into the final approach. I guess I could go and speak to someone at the visitor center, I can't be the only one that's asking :anonymous:

Thanks for the info. One thing I've noticed is the evap condenser drain is not dripping water consistently and the humidity is currently 46% inside, not sure if that helps with diagnosis. Water does exit from there as last night I collected 1.5L in a bucket.

Just as a point of reference, my interior is currently 76° and 43% humidity, so I don’t think your humidity is cause for concern.
