I finally took delivery of my new 2023 SR5 a week ago via a private delivery service.

To my chagrin I only received one tailgate key: two fobs (push button start), but only one tailgate key.

    Is this normal?

Frustrating! We hang our keys inside the house and usually just grab a set as we go out the door. It could be bad if I grabbed a keyless set and got down the road to find the tailgate was locked! Local Ace Hdw will cut the blank for $20 if I provide the blank (around $35.00 or so I hear). The guy promises not to charge me if it doesn't work, so i'd "only" be out the cost of the blank.

There’s a key inside your fob that unlocks your tailgate…. You are aware of that right ?

Might want to get a pop and lock to make it automatic

this, and if you are worried about using it enough to sweat the keys, having it auto lock/unlock makes more worthwhile.

OEM toyota part is better and quieter than the pop and lock. Not much more money for the official part.

This. If you have push button start, the fob has a pop out key.

If you have an old school key, then you would only have one tailgate/glovebox key.

The tailgates have been using the same key as the door locks and ignition since before 2019 haven’t they?

My 2021 SR5 has one key.
Well I got 2 of them but the same key operates the ignition, the glove box, and the tailgate, oh and if I need to I can stick it in the door and unlock the door with it too.

Am I missing something? The SR5 doesn't have a 'push-button' start. Did they change that in 2023? Key Fob?.... please.

The key that operates your ignition also operates the tailgate?

Yep. Glad I got a 2021 if I were shopping today and saw a Fob I'd walk out the front door.

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
Two fobs, two tailgate keys. Bought my 23 sport 10 months ago though and they said there would be changes later.
