I'm going in circles on whether to just buy a new set of 650s since I have a cracked coil, put on the 600s that were covered by Bilstein form the first cracked coil, or just go big with the 8112/8100 set up. My rear fox smooth bodies are shot and so are my Dakars. New RXT leaf set ready to install. Was planning on a shock relocate with 7100s but am chickening out on doing that fab work by myself and there's no one to pay for quality work around me.
Either way I want to stick with Bilstein. I'll probably keep the 6112 for now and go with the 8100 in the rear. I've been plenty satisfied with the 6112.
The wheel every weekend guy has been selling the 8112/8100 for ~5 years and has never had to rebuild a set. Bilstein quality is way beyond the Kings, ICON and Foxs from my research. Makes sense, they are the biggest worldwide.

Camburg had mentioned years ago they they could rebuild 6112 and make them extended length. Never got a reply when I inquired.

I just looked on Down South's site - $325 to rebuild a 6112. I'm sure that does not include shipping.

Hey guys, I'm the owner of Overland Outfitters. Just saw this pop up!

6112's are "rebuildable" but require a special machine to do so that nobody but bilstein would have, at least that I know of. It's extremely expensive, like in the tens of thousands. At least from what I've found out researching this, as we wanted to be able to offer rebuilds on 6112's.

We are doing Shock Value Series 2 which will come out sometime early next year and we will be testing 6112's in that series. We will also be doing the testing a bit differently from our first Shock Value series, as we learned a lot after doing it that first time!

If you have any questions I can do my best to answer. We sell and install a LOT of Bilstein 6112/5160 combos. Easily our best selling setup. We also just opened up our online store to the USA (www.overlandoutfitters.shop), which I'm really excited about. Pricing is a little mixed up, because it's converting from Canadian currency, and we haven't been able to go through the thousands of SKU's yet, so if a price seems high, just reach out to us! Though I'm also stoked for people to be supporting Ian @ Wheel Every Weekend, because he's awesome and really knows his stuff.

The 5160s are paired quite well with the 6112s. And the 8100s, for 5 times the price, don't give you any additional down travel.

We should get together do the extended shock fab work!

Bilstein quality is way beyond Kings, icon, and Fox? I think you’re smoking crack haha. Definitely not true.

Mine turned out great! Drives much better. Somewhat stiffer but bumps and road issues are felt less. Ran over a curb pulling into a gas station at about 10 mph. Not on purpose. Stupid place for a curb. Extended 50 feet from street. Nothing there to protect! Felt like I went through a pot hole. Couldn’t believe it was a curb until I saw it. Guy behind me ran over it too. Now time to go back to check alignment. But, very pleased.

OK, what are you basing that on?
Compare the equivalent 8112 to your King 2.5. Which one will need a rebuild first? Which has more advanced Tech?

Do you think those 3 have the same resources, R&D or experience as Bilstein?
How many shocks have you tried out long term?
What do you think about the seals on your Kings?
I'm not saying those 3 are crap, but I think the rebuild interval says a lot.
Fox seams to be the closest competitor in terms of quality materials.
Probably why Fox and Bilstein go on so many OEMs. Do Kings or ICONs?

What's wrong with crack, have you even tried it?

I think there is a real misunderstanding for most who install Bilstein 6112/5160's. They are firm on the road, and you can feel every crack in the pavement, but I enjoy that, but once you take them off-road, they soak up all of the bumps. Long term, I do believe they are higher quality, but you do get a lot of amazing off-road handling with Kings or Icon, most who daily drive their Tacoma's, don't have a need for Kings, the Bilstein are great for most street driving applications with some off-road weekend trips.
