This has me thinking though. Should I be concerned about it popping? Is there an underlying issue to worry about?

Well it seems you either shorted something out when poking through the harness or while wiring your lights, that fuse feeds alot of stuff.

gotchya, I hadn’t actually finished the wiring yet. I merely poked the wire through before I finished out my night. Should I be concerned over a continued short? Is that something I should still have looked at?

I'd examine that harness closely where you poked through it.

Well, that was easier than I expected.
    Just for safe measure.
Carry a spare 30A fuse, just in case you did knick a wire.
Let’s just hope it was a short from what ever you used to poke through with.

If you need any more help, feel free to ask.

“ Well, that was easier than I expected.“ Haha ya, my wife said the same thing! Lol

Will do, thanks again you guys. I’ll be carrying a spare few and five that bundle a good look over.

I did notice what looked like to me a slightly singed wire on that bundle in the cab side. Let me see if I can grab a photo of it

Here’s the photo of that wire, def looks singed. None of the other wires are though. Perhaps they will protect this wire and insulate it so long as I don’t go poking metal things in there?

I would at least try to wrap it with electrical tape

White/Black wires on Toyota are pretty much always ground wires so that wire must have gotten shorted to power, if the key was off when you were poking I bet it got bridged to the Red wire from the AM2 NO 1 fuse.

that makes a lot of sense. Is it something to worry over?

I can definitely try to electrical tape it as best I can but I doubt I’ll get far or where the Nick is as I imagine it’s right there in the bundle in between the Fire wall where I poked through

I would sure want to find the damaged wire(s) if it was my truck, otherwise you don't know what all was compromised.

Understood . Just do the best you can and carry extra fuses. Drive it like you stole it:hattip::mudding:

No kidding. I took mine into a dealer for a state inspection, and lo and behold, they found a tag light out. Ended up being a corroded bulb holder which they somehow broke beyond repair. They wanted to squeeze $200ish out of me for a new harness because “only comes as an assembly”, and it’d be a week out as it wasn’t in stock. This is after insisting I needed a $600 pair of taillights to pass due to cosmetic cracks in mine. I was as polite as I could be in telling them to fuck right off.

$5 +3day shipping and 5 minutes under the truck in the snow, I had a new OEM bulb holder ordered and installed.

hahaha true, that’s what I worry about the most. Try to do most of my own work but electrical is not something I am really great at. Glad you were able to get the harness fixed by yourself

12v DC is pretty easy to learn. You just have hot wires from the battery and ground back to the battery, all the electrons going the same direction. Just gotta make sure they can’t find a shortcut before they’re supposed to, cause they’ll invite all their friends. Most diagnosis is mainly taking a multimeter and verifying you have the right voltage and/or resistance in the right places.
