I have 21 off road double cab 6ft bed

I want to get a relatively inexpensive rack for a soft rtt and cargo boxes. Something that lets me take a rtt off somewhat easily

I currently have a leer 180 (mid rise cap)

I can’t get a straight answer how much this cap can hold. I assume it’s not strong enough to hold a rtt and people? How can I add a rack?

if I take off the mid rise cap what’s my next best option? I think the cab will not hold enough weight and should look for a bed rack? Also I want the bed rack to work with a tonneau or similar cover…

Well, for you 3rd Gen guys there's a lot of options.

You leave out important details which means you'll just have to look for yourself.

But differences with some versus others are overall length, weight IE steel vs aluminum, utility IE removable panels for adding/removing accessories, height IE how high will the RTT sit in relation to your cab, and more.

Could go the DIY route to keep it really inexpensive.

thanks for the response. What details am I leaving out. At this point l don’t know what I don’t know. Is my best route for safety/ability to hold weight/cost to find some rack for my existing cap or get a bed rack and ditch the mid rise cap? Thank you

As for your questions, light as possible that’s not super expensive, Don’t care about rack height, just that I can use a bed cover, would love to be able to add accessories

My response was just specific to the RTT part, not the shell.

I've seen and know of people running flat stock on the inside as a mounting skeleton for an RTT. I've seen others just mount a makeshift RTT standoffs as far to the edge as possible. Tons of DIY here in the forum. But not having experience with a shell, can't comment on that.

Flat bar stock. Can be steel or aluminum depending on the application. If it is used as reinforcement for weight steel would be better.

There is a company that makes bed racks that allow you to use a cover but they can block the full use of opening the bed cover. Doubt the mid rise cap has the weight rating for tent and people. Also alot of people that use a soft rtt will get a rack for the cab and mount it on there.
