Hello . I have a 21 access cab and the radio screen became very dark while driving. Never touched anything . Still the same after a couple of days . It still has warranty, bring it in ? Or can I do anything ?

Do you have anything on the dashboard that is covering the solar sensor?

Do you have your headlights on? Not sure how to change it in a 2021, but my 2017 has a "night mode" option as well as brightness adjustments. I'd imagine you'd have something similar in your settings. Our 4Runner doesn't have automatic lights so the head unit will automatically go into night mode with the headlights on unless you go in and deactivate it.

Sounds like a backlight problem with the screen. Bring it in under warranty.

Will probably just replace the whole unit, if it's the backlight.
Changing the backlight can be a pita, depending. Some weren't meant to be changed.

Yeah, once upon a time, if a laptop's backlight was broken, you could replace just that. Depending on laptop, the whole screen with backlight are pretty inexpensive. If the vehicle is still under warranty, yep, they'd just replace the whole head-unit.

My son recently dropped his Apple3 Watch, and broke the screen. The cost of repair was at least 150. I found a YouTube video, purchased a replacement screen on ebay for $43 and did the repair myself with success. But, I have the close-up glasses with light to do the work. Wouldn't want to do it again though...

Some things are good to try just to say you've done it.
I put 10mm laminate flooring in my living/dining area.
    Once is enough!

Yes a winter hat in the middle of the dash . I'll take it off and see if it was the problem .

I believe the sensor is near the passenger side of the dash, but I hope moving the hat is the solution.

I have a 21 access cab also. My head unit seems to be very sensitive, it started going dark to light mode quite a bit lately. Nothing is covering the sensor.

Dealer warranty. If it’s a setting they will show you and still fixed. Else replace. Good luck
