I wonder if it is possible to hook up a device to the O2 sensors so we could target an AFR under open loop to allow running e85 mix and not cause the truck to go lean? I have this on my turbo vehicles and I can target mid 12’s to low 13’s which is perfect for running e30 or so.

It’s seems like this is not offered via tuning at this time and I bet there is a good amount of power being left on the table. E85 burns cooler and cleaner than regular fuel as well as the added octane benefits.

It would need to be pre-catalyst to accurately measure AFR. That said there wouldn’t be much benefit in a stock NA engine in terms of power increase. DI injectors don’t really like E85 either. My friend launched a rod thru the block running E85 on his N55 BMW. Injector stuck open and hydro locked the motor.

Hmm, sounds like an isolated incident. I ran e40 in my Kia Stinger 3.3 twin turbo for years without any issues. Pushing 22 lbs of boost / 500+ HP. We run e30 in my wife’s Tucson Hybrid 1.6t pushing 10 lbs over stock, 25 lbs. Little suv is a blast to drive tuned. I get it in a NA engine but it seems you could crank up the timing if you could easily make 97 octane for less than a tank of premium. At least for those who have access.

I’ve been playing with some e25 in my Tacoma and stock timing is pegged at 30 degrees advance, which I believe is factory max, under WOT, but AFR starts to lean out too much. I do think the truck can benefit some with higher octane, especially in the hot summer.

I don’t believe the Tacoma is leaning out because of the fuel Pump, but because it is open loop / doesn’t know what to do.
