Clazzio rear seat, anyone re-use the plastic yet?

My truck came used with clazzios installed. Been thinking about doing this for a while so I figured I’d add some photos for those who are on the fence since cutting is scary. I did the driver side first and didn’t document it, but it’s easier than the passenger since there’s less cutting. It's 103F in SLC right now, so the living room with AC is the garage today.

I used a flathead screwdriver to work the covers around the headrest bezels, this stuff is tough and won’t tear so long as you don’t go full donkey kong on it. Looks like the previous owner installed these when the truck was new, seats and plastic look totally unworn.

After pulling the back off, you can see cutouts in the foam where the clips slide onto the frame of the seat. For the passenger side, you need to make cuts for 5 clips and the middle bottom screw.



Note the cutouts in the foam on the sides and along the top.


I slid the covers back on, and using the screw holes on the seat frame in each lower corner to line up the plastic back plate, pressed down on it to imprint where the clips would be. Then marked those indents and the hole for the middle screw with a sharpie. Side note, fold lower flap of the seat covers over on itself near the lower corners of the seat so you can access the bolt holes.





Using a box cutter, I cut at each of these markings. You can feel where the cutouts in the seat foam are and can use this as a guide. Be careful not to slash the stock fabric along the top.



I went a little high on the top ones, maybe cut a 1/2" below the marked indents from the clips. Now just slide the back on with a bit of muscle, taking care to pull the seat cover tight to account for the smaller overall size of the seat without the plastic backing. I also ended up cutting another 3/4" from the bottom of the existing opening for the seat latch - because the seat is smaller without the plastic cover, it didn't line up right.



Bang. Repeat on the driver side and reinstall!

 

I have had mine on for 4 years and they still look like new, added the heated seats and used the Toyota style high and low switches. I installed the switches in the dash but onto the black plastic being covered up. I covered mine but often thought of doing this mod on a rainy day sometime but never got around to it. Seems pretty easy and looks darn good but I never fold my seats down, heck nobody even rides back there. Might have to do this.

 

Thanks for this. I was able to get mine done in the living room workshop. I also added non slip strips to prevent my gear from sliding around.
