...and look at the Toyota Lift kit.. comes w/ full "blanks" (inserts can be seen in video front page pic) no less.... to be "nanny" compliant by Toyota.
Here's your lift, but there goes your fog lights, officially. I do not have this kit - I upgraded my shocks to 6112/5160 w/ no lift (radical! ;) ) but I think recall reading here many dealerships are not removing existing fog lights. Outlaws! :D

This. A quick search shows Minnesota has the same height restrictions. I have to believe other states would as well.

@crashnburn80 does SAE J583 list height? I'm messing around in the federal codes and see it referenced but I can't access it without paying for it. I'm assuming you have a copy.

My lift is approximately 2" up front (2G TRD Pro lift kit) and my OEM Pro LEDs sit almost at 30" exactly. With an OEM fog lamp I exceed that 30" case. The last thing Toyota needs is to deal with a suit because their fog lamps were too high. The SR-Ms were an easy OTS solution to the problem once converted to DOT specs.

Please disregard the dirt / grime, I haven't washed the truck in a few weeks.

I got the TE. Love it so far.
Would’ve loved to grab the OR Premium but not for the markups they’re going for in my area. For me, the mods I would do to an OR plus the price difference wasn’t worth it for me.

Yes, there is a max SAE height spec for fogs and the TRD Pro Rigid fog design is specifically designed to work within these constraints by lowering the height of the fog assembly due to the increased front lift height on the TRD Pro models. Unfortunately my employer no longer pays for my SAE membership to access to those docs, since we are primarily aerospace, but I do have copies saved off somewhere.

Hmm. I seem to recall something much more specific than this in regard to SAE spec height. Here is what I have as my latest J583 save regs, which is a draft of the current 2020 reg.

    7.1 Mounting Height
The top edge of the projected luminous lens area of the front fog lamp shall be no higher than the top edge of the projected luminous lens area of the low beam headlamp. If the front fog lamp is physically or optically combined with a headlamp assembly, the top edge of the front fog lamp reflector shall be no higher than the top edge of the low beam headlamp reflector.

many states require the fogs to be mounted not higher than 30 inches and car makers are not going to build them different for each state, and the factory lift kit comes with a filler piece to put in when the fog light is removed......i dont know if the dealer takes them out though

The lack of fogs bugged me the most but after reading it’s pre wired I decided I’d get it and add the Rigid fogs. I’d have changed the lights if I bought an OR anyway so in a way I’m glad the TE sort of comes with a clean slate for me to upgrade on.

Yep, this is it. It is a state regulation, California cited below but many others use the same requirements.

California Vehicle Code 24403 forbids the installment of more than two fog lamps. In addition, in order to ensure a safe and well-lit road, the law requires that front fog lamps be mounted at a height of not less than 12 inches nor more than 30 inches from the ground.
