Being a mod does not help your argument here man. Amsoil is good. So is everything else with the right specs.

I'm just going to annoy you. So I took my previously mentioned prius engine apart and I did not see any issues with 10k oil change intervals.

Also just to really drive home how little either of these things matter:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/blackstone-oil-test-at-6-222-miles.598794/

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/oil-test-results-came-today.575805/

and the hundreds of other folks who sent their pre-10k oil to Blackstone.

Agree to disagree. I’m am interested to see what the oil filter looks like when I remove it at 1500 miles. For me, oil is cheap.

Send it to Blackstone when you're done. They've analyzed thousands of pre-10k samples at this point and they put this line in their reports for Tacomas:

    > We think you could run the next fill for close to the average interval without issue

Wasn't trying to argue. I have used it exclusively on most of my vehicles with good results ranging from 160-195k miles of pretty hard use. Just sharing my experiences.

I also have a guy on Tundras.com that has only done engine oil changes on his truck with 500,000 miles. So...kinda pointless to argue how I spend my money.

Lol you cannot see the particles that do the damage. They are 6micron or less. The ones that you can see are 40 microns and won't fit in the clearances. What kind of engineer are you.

it is my understanding and belief that the iron and other deposits that are in the oil at the microscopic level act as sandpaper, scoring internals. Anyway, not looking to turn this into some kind of oil change argument. I’m just looking for information, regarding to compatible gear / transmission oil.

Sending it to Blackstone tells you if the traces of iron and other metals are higher than expected or average. If they aren't, your components aren't getting anymore "scored" than the other thousands of Tacoma's pushing 200k on the odo. Expecting 0 is unreasonable. Change it every 1k and send it to them every 1k and it'll never be zero.

EDIT: also, I did warn you how this would go. ;)

Change it at 5 or 10K. Use any API oil. You will be fine. I have never heard of an engine failing on the brand of oil used.

I know. Always give the benefit of the doubt anyway.

Hope you had a good B-day.

I was out on the PNW ocean. Forgot how much I enjoyed being on/in the water.

What is pointless to you is not necessarily pointless to me. I never claimed anyone was right or wrong for following whatever maintenance schedule they prefer. I just disagree with what the factory recommends as being ideal. Hell, in my Lexus LS they claim the transmission fluid was “lifetime” and to never change it. Of course this was in North America only and many people were losing their transmission at 150k or less. I just personally believe the desire to make a vehicle more “affordable” is taking priority over ideal maintenance schedules. This is sad. Toyota makes fantastic drivelines, in general, but many other manufacturers don’t, and when people start believing this, it’s no wonder engines and transmissions fail early. Kia / Hyundai is a great example.
