No, I'd say this is strictly about chrome. No other "bling" being discussed here that I know of, since the OP was specifically asking about chrome and not bling in general.

Most people Id say have different ideas of what constitutes "bling", but in the case of chrome, I'd say it's pretty polarizing to most.
Usually a case of love it or hate it. Tastes change; I loved chrome back in the 80s and 90s, but today I just find it extremely dated and tacky looking, akin to gold or silver on a vehicle.
    Again, no accounting for taste.

Chrome looks good on the 66 vw, not so much on newer vehicles :rofl:Yota Wash.jpg

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
All hail the VW bug! Nice looking bug.

They were the best for bumper skiing behind in winter. It was gold when one came by. As a kid, they were pretty common back then.

Grade school, grade 5-7 we would wait for drivers to slow at a 4 way stop sign.

Drivers would freak out. As soon as they started to move, 3 or 4 of us would run up behind, grab that nice big rear bumper, squat down and hang on for dear life. Sometimes go a couple blocks or until the driver could fishtail and shake is off.

So much fun. For us, not the drivers. Often they’d stop and want to give foot chase, but we were fast and the chase made it way more fun.

You had to of course wear only running shoes in the deep snow. Any shoe with a heel on it and you could snag your foot on some ice and break a leg.

Did this daily during winter months, except when the local lake would freeze over. Then a dozen of us locals would be first on the winter ice when it was only 1.5 inches thick. Ice hockey until the cops would come by and kick us off. As soon as they would leave, we’d lace up and head back out. A week later and the rest of the neighborhood would venture out when it was thicker.

    Crazy shit.

Hey, not condoning this kind of behavior, but damn those were fun winters. :)

Almost bought a used Bug when I was 19 years old. Test drove it but went a different direction.

No, definitely not, my wife would attest to that.

If anything I ruin things with my caveman sensibilities.

Most people do have different ideas of bling. Every jacked up full size truck out there is for function? Or bling? It’s just fun to see what people will spend money on. I saw a new Tundra Limited in Army green the other day with quite a bit of chrome that I’m pretty sure was stock. Didn’t have as much as one above! But the one I saw was still probably too much for most. Made me laugh thinking about it when I saw it. I traded a full grey Silverado with matching painted bumpers, matte silver wheels, one tiny piece of chrome in front (metal), and an all grey interior. Boy was that a hearse to driver every day. Wife hated it. Made you sad. I have no chrome now on the outside of the taco but I’d assume some think pearl color is too blingy. Lol I have the chrome accents inside that apparently really makes em dance. Makes me laugh some are so obsessed they need to replace a less than 1/4” shiny ring. That’s laugh out loud funny to me. But if it makes ya happy, go fer it!

Bugs are just cool. Love the tap of the engine. Pretty unique sound to a VW bug.

I wonder how many birds that chrome truck would kill?

For some reason chrome didn't bother me until I bought my Tacoma Sport in 2016, found TW, then started coming upon vendors with ways to get rid of chrome.

I'm 100% in favor of getting rid of every last bit of it now LOL

    Lol
Fell victim to the fad. TW almost makes me want to get new wheels and a lift. Definitely getting better tires but that’s pure function for my local.

If I thought chrome would disassociate me from all the skinny jean, bun wearing hipsters I see in Tacomas I would have the whole damn truck chromed.

It certainly seems like life was in a simpler world back then, more fun to live in.

That pic brings back memories getting the cops called on us nearly everyday for racing our go carts, and mini bikes around the streets, and sand lots. They never caught me, I was like their number 1 wanted criminal.

    Yup.

To me, bling are all the jacked up 4x4s that only hit dirt if they accidentallly veer off their paved lane while heading to the mall.

I "de-chromed" my '68 by painting most of the chrome to the body color just to be different. I even painted the chrome bumpers flat argent for a change. When I get sick of that look I'll just strip the paint off and go back to chrome...

As for my Taco? "No chrome for you!"

We had one of our friends named James that during our high school days completely bondoed up the rear side windows on his bug. The nickname james bondo stuck with him for years.

Facts. Local pizza place uses them as their delivery vehicles (or tries to) as they hold on to their late 60's early 70's vibe roots (college town). They are tie dyed, zebra striped, you name it. All works.
